How to Move a Toilet Squat Pan

Admin 28 de septiembre de 2026

Moving a toilet squat pan can be achieved through methods such as breaking and repaving or using a toilet offset flange, depending on the relocation distance and construction conditions.

1. Break the Original Squat Pan and Repave

This method is suitable for long-distance relocation of the squat pan or when the original pipe layout is unreasonable. Construction Steps:

  1. Break the original squat pan and clean up the residues;
  2. Reconnect the sewer pipe according to the new location, ensuring the slope meets drainage requirements (generally not less than 3%);
  3. Lay floor tiles and restore ground flatness.
    Applicable Scenarios: Same-floor drainage systems (where the drainage pipe is located below the ground of the same floor), and the floor slab allows for trenching or raising the ground. Precautions: Confirm the floor slab structure in advance (e.g., avoid damaging load-bearing structures in reinforced concrete floor slabs) and assess the impact of ground raising on spaces such as door frames and aisles.

2. Use a Toilet Offset Flange

Toilet offset flanges are suitable for short-distance adjustments and come in two types:

  1. Offset Toilet Flange:

    • Relocation Distance: Approximately 6-7 cm (center distance);
    • Construction Points: Drill holes in the ground and level them to ensure the offset flange is flush with the ground after installation, avoiding tripping or water leakage;
    • Applicable Scenarios: Inter-floor drainage systems (where the drainage pipe is located below the ceiling of the floor below) and with small relocation needs.
  2. Elbow Toilet Flange:

    • Relocation Distance: 10-40 cm;
    • Construction Steps:
      • Chisel a groove in the ground (depth approximately 2-4 cm);
      • Embed the offset flange and ensure a drainage slope of at least 3%;
      • Backfill the groove, perform waterproofing, and lay tiles to restore the ground.
    • Risks and Limitations: When the relocation distance exceeds 15 cm, the risk of poor drainage increases significantly, and there may be odors due to poor pipe sealing; regular inspection of pipe connections is required.

3. Key Precautions

  1. Drainage System Assessment:
    • For same-floor drainage, pipes can be directly modified; for inter-floor drainage, consult with the floor below, which may involve ceiling work or exposed pipes.
  2. Accurate Measurement:
    • Measure the new rough-in distance (distance from the squat pan's drain outlet to the wall) before relocation to ensure it matches the new location.
  3. Compliance:
    • Notify the property management company before construction to avoid damaging public pipes or load-bearing structures;
    • Communicate with neighbors below to minimize the impact of construction on their daily lives.

Summary: For short distances (≤15 cm), prioritize using an elbow toilet flange. For long distances or complex modifications, combine pipe repaving and ground raising solutions, and strictly follow construction specifications to ensure drainage efficiency and safety.
