Tai Hu Container House

Admin 15 de septiembre de 2026

Tai Hu Container House mainly refers to vacation homes built using containers in rural areas of Thailand. Here is a detailed introduction to Tai Hu Container House:

  1. Design Background and Requirements:

    • In remote areas where it is difficult to transport building materials, such as rural Nakhon Nayok in Thailand, traditional construction methods face challenges. Architect Tung Jai Ork Baab creatively used containers as building materials, solving transportation and construction problems.
    • The area lacks skilled contractors and construction workers, and the terrain is narrow, making it difficult for large construction vehicles to pass through, further highlighting the advantages of container houses.
  2. Structural and Design Features:

    • The container house adopts an A-frame design, combining the concepts of all-weather and indoor-outdoor spaces. Two 20-foot containers are connected to create the main public lounge, with full-length floor-to-ceiling windows added at both ends to ensure ample light entry.
    • The house utilizes the modular nature of containers to form different functional areas by combining different containers, such as open courtyards, dining and storage rooms, and private bedrooms.
    • The roof design takes into account Thailand's climate characteristics, using a sloped roofline to avoid heat transfer to the metal container, and some roofs use translucent materials to allow natural light in.
  3. Functions and Facilities:

    • The interior space of the container house is reasonably planned, including a public lounge, dining area, storage room, private bedroom, etc., to meet vacation needs.
    • The exterior of the house is equipped with leisure facilities such as an open courtyard, deck space, and an above-ground swimming pool to enhance the vacation experience.
    • Considering the needs of family travel, a wooden playground and sandbox structure are also set up at the front of the house, suitable for children to play.
  4. Environmental Adaptability and Sustainability:

    • The container house is located on low-lying swampland in empty rice fields. The architect ensures flood safety during the rainy season by digging out small reservoirs and using soil to create highlands.
    • The exterior of the house is treated with an earthy brown color to help it blend in with the natural environment, reflecting the concept of sustainable design.
