Shaoxing Container House Construction

Admin 16 de septiembre de 2026

The construction of container houses in Shaoxing requires comprehensive consideration of multiple factors such as design, materials, construction, and compliance.

I. Design Planning
The design of container houses should integrate functional requirements with spatial layout. For example, by combining 2-3 containers, functional areas such as living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms can be expanded, or split-level designs can be adopted to enhance spatial hierarchy. Attention should be paid to lighting and thermal insulation during design, such as installing large floor-to-ceiling windows, skylights on the roof, and using triple-glazed windows and internal insulation layers. Additionally, the exterior facade can be beautified through paint spraying, cladding, or glass curtain walls to shed the industrial look.

II. Material Selection
Material quality directly affects the lifespan and safety of the house. In Shaoxing, color-coated steel sheets are commonly used as wall panels, paired with channel steel and square steel welded frames to ensure structural stability. For long-term residence, high-strength, corrosion-resistant steel should be selected, and proper rust prevention measures should be taken. For instance, all cut and welded edges should be ground smooth and coated with epoxy primer and topcoat, and coastal areas require reapplication of anti-corrosion coatings every 3-5 years.

III. Construction Process
The construction of container houses involves two stages: factory prefabrication and on-site assembly. The factory completes cutting, welding, painting, and other processes, and tests utilities such as water, electricity, doors, and windows; on-site work includes foundation construction (such as pile foundation damp-proofing) and container assembly. The construction period is 60% shorter than that of traditional buildings, but strict sealing of joints between containers and around doors and windows is necessary, and sealant should be replaced regularly (every 5-7 years).

IV. Compliance Requirements
Before construction, the land nature and approval process must be clarified. If building on rural homestead land, a structural drawing stamped by an engineer and construction approval must be provided; leased land can only be used for temporary structures, and the contract must specify the nature of use. Additionally, as container houses fall under steel structure buildings, they must comply with local fire safety and seismic regulations to avoid being classified as illegal constructions.

V. Maintenance Tips
For long-term use, regular inspections of welds, corners, and other rust-prone areas are necessary, and any rust spots should be ground and repainted immediately. The container should be elevated above the foundation to prevent moisture damage at the bottom. In humid southern regions, anti-corrosion coatings should be reapplied every 7-10 years, while in dry inland regions, the interval can be extended to 8-12 years.
