Shanghai's public mobile toilets have undergone upgrades and optimizations in multiple areas and aspects to meet the diverse needs of the public.
In the Pudong New Area, seven mobile public toilets at the intersections of Haitong Road and Meihua Road, Century Avenue and Weifang Road, and Zhangyang Road and Miaopu Road have been unveiled with a fresh look. The updated public toilets emphasize harmony and aesthetics, using soft hues like light beige and light brown as the base, with dark blue outlining the borders and accenting certain areas, making them easily identifiable and more attractive for public use. In areas with high foot traffic, barrier-free access and stainless steel handrails have been added around the public toilets to facilitate use by individuals with special needs. The standard toilet stalls are fully equipped, creating "age-friendly and child-friendly" stalls, with electronic screens on the stall doors displaying real-time usage status to enhance efficiency. The mobile public toilet at the intersection of Century Avenue and Weifang Road has also introduced a dedicated "Sanitation Workers' Lounge" for sanitation workers, equipped with facilities such as a refrigerator, shower room, microwave oven, and charging ports, providing them with rest and convenience. There are plans to continue identifying suitable locations in conjunction with mobile public toilet renovation projects to expand the coverage of these "Sanitation Workers' Lounges."
Xuhui District has launched a shared public toilet map, incorporating 65 simple households and internal toilets of units into the shared network, making it convenient for the public to find and use nearby toilet resources.
