Shanghai Container House Reports

Admin 17 de septiembre de 2026

Reports on container houses in Shanghai mainly involve cases of illegal construction of structures, and relevant departments will handle them in accordance with the law, ordering the removal of illegally constructed container houses.

Report Cases and Handling Situations

  • Case in Jiading Town, Jiading District: Residents reported that a container had "fallen from the sky" in the courtyard below their building and was suspected of being inhabited. After inspection by law enforcement officers, it was found that the container was constructed in a patio that did not belong to any individual or the leased shop. Therefore, the act of constructing the container was suspected of being an illegal construction of a structure. After receiving a notice of rectification, the shop owner removed the container.
  • Case in Chongming District: The Chongming District Bureau has also clearly issued information stating that container houses are considered illegal constructions and must be removed if they violate construction regulations. This regulation reflects Shanghai's zero-tolerance attitude towards illegal construction activities.
  • Case in Liuxiang Village, Nanxiang Town: In the residential area at No. 2221 Yunbei Road, Liuxiang Village, Nanxiang Town, a homeowner constructed a movable container house for charging electric bicycles as a temporary structure. However, this act was also identified as an illegal construction and has been removed by relevant departments.

Basis and Process for Handling Reports

The handling of illegal construction of structures in Shanghai is mainly carried out in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. Upon receiving a report, relevant departments will promptly initiate an investigation to verify the situation. If illegal construction is confirmed, a notice of rectification will be issued to the constructor in accordance with the law, requiring them to remove the illegal construction within a specified period. If the constructor refuses to comply, relevant departments will take compulsory removal measures to ensure the smooth progress of urban planning and construction order.

Public Participation and Supervision

When the public discovers illegal constructions such as container houses, they can actively report them to relevant departments. Through public participation and supervision, the occurrence of illegal construction activities can be more effectively curbed, maintaining the cleanliness and order of the city.
