Self-made Container House Layout

Admin 15 de septiembre de 2026

The layout of a self-made container house requires comprehensive consideration of factors such as functional zoning, space utilization, ventilation, and lighting. Here are some common layout plans and key points:

Single-level Layout

  • Basic Assembly: By connecting or打通 (opening up) 2-3 containers, you can expand functional areas such as living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms. For example,打通 (opening up) two containers can create a single-level layout with an integrated living and dining area, two bedrooms, and a bathroom with a bathtub (approximately 100㎡).
  • Functional Zoning: Rationally divide various functional areas to ensure separation between dynamic and static zones. The living and dining rooms can serve as public activity areas and be placed near the entrance, while bedrooms should be arranged in relatively quiet areas to ensure rest quality. Bathrooms and kitchens should be located near water sources and sewage pipes for easy use and maintenance.
  • Space Utilization: Use multifunctional furniture to enhance space flexibility, such as foldable beds (which can be converted into sofas during the day), foldable tables, and integrated cabinets. For small units (e.g., 15㎡), these pieces of furniture can be folded away when not in use to increase activity space.

Split-level Layout

  • Spatial Hierarchy: Stacking containers in an offset manner on different levels can create a richer spatial hierarchy and leave a leisurely courtyard or passageway area at the bottom level, improving ventilation and lighting. For example, by stacking containers vertically, the bottom level can serve as a leisure area or storage space, while the upper level can be used as bedrooms and a living room.
  • Vertical Circulation: Set up reasonable stairs or ladders to connect different floors, ensuring safe and convenient passage. The design of the stairs should consider space utilization and aesthetics. You can choose spiral stairs or straight stairs and install handrails according to actual needs.

Special Area Design

  • Kitchen: A linear kitchen design is more suitable for small container houses, meeting daily cooking needs while effectively saving space. Incorporate ample storage space to ensure kitchen cleanliness and convenience of use.
  • Bathroom: A rounded-edge design for corners is more aesthetically pleasing and smooth, and the door can completely conceal the bathroom when closed. Plan the layout of the bathroom reasonably to ensure that functions such as washing, toileting, and bathing are complete, and implement a dry-wet separation.
  • Balcony and Courtyard: If conditions permit, you can set up a balcony or courtyard outside the container house to increase outdoor activity space. The balcony can be furnished with leisurely tables and chairs, while the courtyard can be planted with flowers and plants to create a comfortable living atmosphere.
