Prefabricated House Roof in Puyang

Admin 18 de septiembre de 2026

In the past, it was relatively common for houses in rural areas of Puyang to use prefabricated panels as roofs, but there are obvious drawbacks. Cast-in-place concrete roofs are gradually becoming a better choice.

Advantages of Prefabricated Panel Roofs

Prefabricated panel roofs were once widely used in rural areas of Puyang mainly due to their low cost and convenient construction. Prefabricated panels are produced in a standardized way in factories and can be directly spliced and installed on-site without complex formwork and curing procedures, significantly shortening the construction period. This is suitable for families with a limited budget and those seeking fast house construction. In addition, the relatively low price of the materials further reduces the overall house-building cost.

Disadvantages of Prefabricated Panel Roofs

  1. Poor waterproofing: There are gaps at the joints of prefabricated panels. If proper waterproofing treatment is not carried out during construction (such as not filling waterproof mortar or not laying waterproof membranes), rainwater can easily seep into the room through the gaps, causing roof leaks. Long-term leakage may damage the interior decoration, and subsequent maintenance requires re-treating the gaps, which is costly.
  2. Low earthquake resistance: Prefabricated panels have a spliced structure with weak integrity and are prone to dislocation or fracture under earthquake action. Although Puyang is not a high-seismic-risk area, the low earthquake resistance may still increase the risk of house collapse and threaten living safety.
  3. Weak load-bearing capacity: The thickness of prefabricated panels is usually about 12 centimeters, and their designed load-bearing capacity is limited. If heavy objects are suspended on the roof (such as large-scale lamps and water storage tanks) or partition walls are renovated, local overloading may cause the floor slab to crack and affect structural safety.
  4. Poor thermal insulation: Prefabricated panels are relatively thin, and their heat insulation in summer and thermal insulation in winter are not ideal. Additional thermal insulation materials (such as foam boards) need to be laid or the thickness of the suspended ceiling needs to be increased, but this will further reduce the indoor net height and increase the cost.

Advantages of Cast-in-Place Concrete Roofs

Cast-in-place concrete roofs form an integral structure through on-site pouring, with strong integrity, good earthquake and water penetration resistance, and excellent load-bearing capacity, effectively avoiding the drawbacks of prefabricated panels. Although its cost is relatively high and the construction period is longer (requiring formwork erection, pouring, curing, and other procedures), in the long run, it offers better safety, durability, and living comfort.

Suggestions

If the budget allows, give priority to cast-in-place concrete roofs to ensure the safety and durability of the house. If prefabricated panels are still considered, one needs to accept their drawbacks such as leakage and poor thermal insulation, and strictly carry out waterproofing treatment (such as filling gaps with waterproof materials and laying waterproof membranes). At the same time, avoid suspending heavy objects on the roof or renovating partition walls.
