Pudong Public Mobile Toilets
Pudong New Area has carried out a comprehensive update and upgrade of public mobile toilets to meet the needs of citizens and special groups and improve the quality of the urban environment.

I. Overview of the Update Project
In 2024, the Pudong New Area Greening and City Appearance Administration Bureau approved the mobile toilet update project, which involves the procurement and update of seven mobile toilets located at Puyi Road-Pu'ao Road, Yongtai Road Bus Stop 572, Dongsan Street-Jiaonan Road, etc. The total investment in the project is 2.485 million yuan, aiming to enhance the service functions and user experience of the toilets through hardware upgrades.
II. Functional and Facility Optimization
The updated mobile toilets feature separate men's and women's toilet compartments, as well as individual third toilets and barrier-free access, meeting the special needs of disabled individuals, the elderly, and families with children. The interior facilities of the toilet compartments are complete, with simple and bright decorations using soft colors such as light beige and light brown, paired with dark blue borders, blending naturally with the surrounding environment. In areas with high pedestrian traffic, barrier-free access and stainless steel handrails have been added around the toilets to further ensure the safety of those with mobility impairments.
III. Smart and Age-Friendly Design
The toilet compartment doors are equipped with electronic screens that display real-time usage status, preventing users from accidentally pushing on occupied doors. Some toilets have created "age-friendly and child-friendly toilet compartments" with details such as non-slip floors, handrails, and low-level washbasins to enhance the convenience of use for special groups. For example, the toilet at the intersection of Century Avenue and Weifang Road has added a "sanitation station" providing facilities such as refrigerators, shower rooms, microwaves, and charging ports for sanitation workers, demonstrating humanistic care.
IV. Coverage and Future Plans
Currently, seven mobile toilets, including those at Haitong Road-Meihua Road and Century Avenue-Weifang Road, have been updated and put into use. In addition, there is a public toilet located 280 meters east of the intersection of Chaohe Road and Lushuo Road in Pudong New Area. In the future, the new area plans to expand the coverage of "sanitation stations" in conjunction with the mobile toilet update project, continuously optimizing the layout of public service facilities.
This update not only improves the practicality and aesthetics of the toilets but also highlights the refined level of urban management through smart and humanized designs.
