What is a Prefabricated Steel Structure House

Admin 18 de septiembre de 2026

A prefabricated steel structure house is a building form that combines the characteristics of prefabricated modular construction and steel structure housing. It involves the industrial production of components and their on-site assembly, with a steel structure system (such as steel frames, steel frame-bracing systems, etc.) serving as the main load-bearing structure.

Construction Method

The components of a prefabricated steel structure house are standardized and produced in factories, including steel frames, floor slabs, stairs, etc. These components are then transported to the construction site for modular assembly. This approach reduces on-site wet work (such as concrete pouring), shortens the construction period, and ensures component precision and quality stability through factory production.

Structural System

Its structural system typically adopts forms such as steel frames, steel frame-bracing systems, or steel frame-core tube systems. Frame columns are often selected from section steel (such as H-shaped steel) or concrete-filled steel tubular columns, beams are made of section steel beams, floor slabs use composite floor slabs (prefabricated base plates + cast-in-place layers) or steel bar truss floor decking, and stairs are prefabricated components. This system achieves lightweight design through the high-strength properties of steel and enhances overall stability through reasonable bracing or core tube arrangements.

Core Advantages

  1. Excellent Seismic Performance: Steel structures have good ductility and can absorb seismic energy through deformation, reducing the risk of structural damage.
  2. High Construction Efficiency: The combination of industrial production and on-site assembly can shorten the construction period by 30%-50% and is less affected by weather conditions.
  3. Green and Low-Carbon: Steel has a recycling rate of over 90%, reducing construction waste; factory production reduces energy consumption and dust pollution.
  4. High Space Utilization: Steel components have small cross-sections, increasing indoor clear height; large-span designs allow for flexible layouts.
  5. Material Recycling: After demolition, steel can be remelted and processed, aligning with sustainable development concepts.

Application Scope

Prefabricated steel structure houses are suitable for various types of buildings, including residential, commercial, and industrial structures. Domestic typical cases include Baotou Wanjun Metropolis (a residential project) and Hangzhou Qianjiang Century City Talent Special Housing (a project combining affordable housing and commercial housing), which have verified their adaptability in different building types. Their industrial characteristics make them particularly suitable for large-scale development, such as affordable housing and industrial parks, which are sensitive to efficiency and cost.
