Door Opening in Prefabricated Slab Houses

Admin 18 de septiembre de 2026

Caution must be exercised when opening doorways in prefabricated slab houses. It is essential to comply with laws and regulations and ensure safety. It is not recommended unless absolutely necessary. Detailed analysis is as follows:

Legal Aspect: According to Article 5 of the 'Measures for the Administration of Interior Decoration and Renovation of Residential Buildings', interior decoration and renovation activities in residential buildings are prohibited from altering the main structure and load-bearing components of the building without a design plan proposed by the original design unit or a design unit with corresponding qualifications. As part of the floor system, prefabricated slabs fall within the category of main building structures and load-bearing components. If opening a doorway involves altering prefabricated slabs, a design plan from the original design unit or a qualified unit is required; otherwise, it is considered illegal.

Safety Aspect:

  • Compromising Structural Integrity: Prefabricated slabs bear the weight of the floor and transfer loads. Opening a doorway weakens their load-bearing capacity, potentially leading to wall cracking, deformation, or even collapse.
  • Affecting Overall Building Stability: Alterations to prefabricated slabs may trigger a chain reaction, affecting the structural stability of the entire building and posing a threat to the safety of occupants.

Operational Aspect:

  • Preparation: Assess the building structure to ensure that the walls do not serve a load-bearing function and will not endanger the overall structural safety. Measure the dimensions of the doorway to ensure they are appropriate and procure the necessary materials according to the actual dimensions.
  • Material Selection: Reinforcing materials, such as reinforcing bars, should be added around the doorway. A door lintel should be installed above the doorway to bear the weight of the door. High-quality materials should be used for the door frame to ensure the service life and safety of the door.
  • Opening the Hole: Professional equipment should be used to open the hole to ensure that the wall is not damaged. The hole should be flat and trimmed according to the dimensions of the door frame. Reinforcing bars should be properly set to ensure the structural safety around the doorway. According to regulations, opening holes in prefabricated slabs is strictly prohibited. However, if holes are made parallel to the slab direction and it can be ensured that the internal prestressed reinforcing bars are not cut, a few holes can be made. But making holes in the perpendicular direction will require cutting at least two reinforcing bars, and it is best to avoid doing so.
  • Reinforcement and Decoration: Reinforcing bars should be set at the edges of the doorway. When installing a security door lock, a reinforcing rod should be set above the doorway, and the door lintel should be made of high-strength materials. The door frame and door should be painted or sprayed, and the empty space above the doorway should be repaired to enhance aesthetics.
