Tile Cracking in Prefabricated Panel Houses
Admin 18 de septiembre de 2026
Tile cracking in prefabricated panel houses is mainly related to tensile stress, temperature variations, and improper construction methods, and can be avoided through reasonable material selection, standardized installation, and proper cleaning.

Causes of Tile Cracking
- Tensile Stress: During the installation of prefabricated panels, tensile stress is generated during the process of reinforcing and securing. If the tiles used have insufficient tensile strength, they are prone to cracking under the stress during daily use of the house. For example, tiles of poor quality or with loose materials often have weaker tensile properties and are more susceptible to tensile stress.
- Temperature Variations: Changes in ambient temperature cause slight changes in the volume of prefabricated panels. For indoor-installed prefabricated panels, this effect is more pronounced when outdoor temperature variations are significant. Changes in panel volume further affect the fixed state of the tiles, subjecting them to uneven forces and leading to cracking. For instance, this situation is more likely to occur in regions with large diurnal temperature variations.
- Improper Construction Methods: Issues in any of the stages of prefabricated panel selection, installation, securing, and construction methods can lead to tile cracking. If the selected prefabricated panels are of poor quality, or if they are not properly compacted and secured during installation, or if the method of securing the tiles is incorrect, the tiles will be subjected to unreasonable stress during use, ultimately resulting in cracking.
Methods to Avoid Tile Cracking
- Material Selection: Choosing tiles with good crack resistance and high strength is crucial. Such tiles can better withstand various stresses and reduce the likelihood of cracking. Additionally, reinforcing the prefabricated panels at appropriate locations can prevent the concentration of tensile stress. For example, reinforcing materials such as steel bars can be added at the joints of the prefabricated panels.
- Installation Methods: During the installation of prefabricated panels, sufficient compaction and securing should be ensured to prevent excessive tensile stress during use. Furthermore, appropriate wide-joint and joint-treatment methods should be adopted to allow space for temperature variations. This way, when the prefabricated panels change in volume due to temperature variations, the tiles will not crack due to compression.
- Construction Cleaning: Before installing the tiles, the surfaces of the prefabricated panels and tiles should be thoroughly cleaned to ensure they are free of impurities. This ensures proper fixation and construction between the tiles and prefabricated panels, avoiding the impact of an unclean surface on the bonding effect and subsequent tile cracking.
