House Structure with Prefabricated Panels

Admin 19 de septiembre de 2026

The house structure with prefabricated panels is a type of building constructed primarily using prefabricated panels, featuring specific structural characteristics and a historical background of application.

Structural Characteristics

  • Component Types: Prefabricated panels are cement components manufactured in factories. During production, wooden formwork is first nailed together, followed by the placement of steel reinforcement and the pouring of cement to form the panels, which come in solid and hollow varieties. The hollow structure achieves lightweighting by reducing the non-load-bearing concrete, maintaining structural strength while reducing the self-weight of the components.
  • Structural Form: Houses with prefabricated panels often adopt a brick-and-concrete structure, with load-bearing brick walls and prefabricated concrete floor slabs. The floor slabs are connected to the load-bearing walls through the prefabricated panels, with the overall structure relying on the load-bearing capacity of the walls. This structural form results in lower overall rigidity of the house, making it relatively weak in resisting horizontal loads such as earthquake forces.
  • Spatial Layout: The floor plan is constrained by the dimensions of the prefabricated panels, resulting in relatively fixed unit designs. Room spans are generally small, typically 3 to 4 meters, limiting the sense of openness in indoor spaces. Additionally, north-south ventilation is poor,不利于 (unfavorable to) indoor air circulation and natural lighting. Floor heights are usually low, ranging from 2.6 to 2.8 meters, and due to the span limitations of the prefabricated panels, the spatial layout is relatively compact, giving a sense of confinement.

Historical Application

Houses with prefabricated panels were commonly seen in urban residential buildings from the 1970s to the 1990s. At that time, due to the advantages of fast construction speed and low cost, prefabricated panel houses were widely used in the construction of affordable housing and economic housing. The fast construction speed was reflected in the prefabrication of components in factories, which only required assembly on-site after transportation, significantly shortening the construction cycle. The low cost was due to the fact that factory production could improve material utilization and reduce labor and material waste in on-site construction.

Renovation Limitations

Due to the predominance of load-bearing walls, renovation flexibility is poor. During interior decoration or renovation, walls cannot be randomly removed or altered, as this would damage the overall structure of the house and affect its safety.
