The prefabricated house design model mainly includes three types: modular buildings, flat-pack micro houses, and prefabricated assembled mobile houses.
Modular buildings involve breaking down the entire structure into multiple independent modules. These modules are manufactured in a factory, covering most of the work such as structure, decoration, and equipment installation, and are then transported to the construction site for assembly. This design model offers significant advantages. For example, in the affordable housing project in Shenzhen, Guangdong, by using 6,028 concrete modules for assembly, the completion and delivery time for five residential buildings nearly 100 meters tall was shortened from the traditional 2.5 to 3 years to just 1 year, greatly improving construction efficiency. Modular buildings are not only suitable for residential projects but can also be widely applied to various building types such as schools, hospitals, and office buildings. Their modular design provides better flexibility and scalability.
Flat-pack micro houses have attracted attention for their ease of transportation and rapid assembly. For instance, Brette Haus's BASIC modular house features hinge connections between three modules, enabling mutual folding and greatly facilitating transportation. Upon arrival at the site, the house can be assembled in just three hours, with an internal floor area of approximately 15 square meters and a total area including the patio of 22 square meters. It is constructed using eco-friendly materials, achieving complete carbon neutrality. Additionally, Backcountry Hut Company's System 01 prefabricated cabin is another typical example of a flat-pack micro house. Its shell is produced in a factory, and all components can be easily assembled on-site without any mechanical assistance. The living space is 17 square meters, sufficient to accommodate an open-plan lounge and kitchen, bathroom, and a sleeping or storage loft.
Prefabricated assembled mobile houses combine the advantages of a steel structure frame and insulated soundproof composite walls. They are fully decorated upon leaving the factory and can be put into operation immediately after being hoisted and placed on-site. This design model emphasizes features such as a tech-inspired appearance, panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, and skylights, making it highly suitable for popular light-asset business formats such as scenic spots, wilderness campsites, and rural homestays. Prefabricated assembled mobile houses not only offer rapid assembly and flexible mobility but also provide a comfortable living environment, meeting modern people's pursuit of high-quality life.
