Park Restroom Design with Movable Balcony

Admin 13 de octubre de 2026

Currently, there is no conventional practice or standard specification for designing movable balconies in park restrooms in a general sense. However, there is a special design case where the men's restroom urinals are semi-open and located on a balcony.

Special Design Case

The restrooms in Shenzhen Lianhuashan Park feature a design where the men's urinals are semi-open and placed on a balcony. According to the staff, the original concept was to allow users to enjoy the view outside while using the urinals, while ensuring privacy. This unique design has even won awards, indicating that it has been recognized and appreciated to a certain extent. This design breaks away from the traditional closed and monotonous space model of restrooms, introducing natural scenery into the restroom experience and providing users with a brand-new experience. From a visual perspective, users can appreciate the park's scenery while using the urinals, alleviating any sense of oppression that may arise from using the restroom. From a spatial utilization standpoint, this design cleverly utilizes the balcony space, combining the urinals with the external scenery and enhancing the space's趣味性 (fun) and openness.

Reasons for the Lack of Universal Practice

On one hand, the design of park restrooms needs to consider various factors, such as the flow of users, the needs of users of different ages and genders, the convenience of hygiene and cleaning, safety, and privacy protection. The design of movable balconies may pose challenges in these areas. For example, in terms of privacy protection, improper design may cause discomfort to users. In terms of safety, the structural stability and load-bearing capacity of movable balconies need to be strictly ensured; otherwise, there may be safety hazards. On the other hand, different parks have varying geographical environments, cultural characteristics, and functional orientations, and the design of restrooms also needs to be coordinated with the overall style of the park. Therefore, it is difficult to form a universally applicable model for designing movable balconies in park restrooms.

Future Possibilities

As people's demands for the quality of park environments and user experiences continue to rise, along with continuous innovation in architectural technology and design concepts, there may be more novel park restroom designs in the future, including those involving movable balconies. However, in practical applications, various factors need to be fully considered, and scientific and reasonable design and planning should be carried out to ensure the functionality, safety, and comfort of the restrooms.
