Design Drawings for Old Container Houses

Admin 17 de septiembre de 2026

Currently, there are no directly available complete design drawings for old container houses, but design ideas and inspiration can be obtained from relevant renovation cases. The following summarizes key design points from different cases to provide references for renovating old container houses:

Spatial planning should be combined with functional requirements
In the case of Xiaogan, Hubei, Mr. Zhou transformed a 3m×6m second-hand container into a rustic-style internet-famous cabin. He drew the design drawings using his phone's memo app, clearly dividing the space into an open kitchen, a projection area, and an independent bathroom. This demonstrates that even with limited space, multifunctional integration can be achieved through reasonable planning. For example, an open kitchen saves space, a projection area meets entertainment needs, and an independent bathroom enhances living convenience. During renovation, functional zones should be adjusted according to actual needs to avoid space wastage.

Flexible design improves space utilization
The 72-square-meter container project renovated by Architect Zhang Haiao's team in Shanghai achieves mode switching between family, office, and party settings through foldable walls and expandable space. The design of a high-ceilinged living room and a transformable conference table enables a single space to serve multiple functions. Renovations of old containers can draw inspiration from such ideas, such as using movable partitions, foldable furniture, or lifting platforms to flexibly adjust the spatial layout according to usage scenarios and improve utilization.

Innovative design addresses living challenges
A 15-square-meter container home in the forest features a foldable bed design that serves as a sofa during the day and unfolds into a double bed at night, along with a retractable roof and solar panels. This design saves space while meeting living needs. Renovations of old containers can innovate to address challenges such as lighting, ventilation, and energy supply, for example, by adding skylights to improve lighting, installing ventilation systems to enhance air quality, or utilizing solar panels for energy self-sufficiency.

Structural safety and material selection are fundamental
When renovating old containers, it is essential to prioritize checking structural integrity and repairing rusted or deformed parts to ensure housing safety. In terms of material selection, a combination of environmental friendliness and durability can be considered, such as using reclaimed wood, anti-corrosion coatings, or insulation materials to enhance living comfort. Additionally, local climate conditions should be taken into account, such as strengthening moisture-proofing in humid areas and adding insulation layers in cold regions.
