Prefabricated Housing in Northwest China

Admin 17 de septiembre de 2026

Prefabricated housing in Northwest China, represented by the Qinxing Jiayuan project and practices in Qinghai, achieves a balance between efficiency improvement and ecological protection through modular construction, eco-adaptive design, and full-industry-chain application.

I. Qinxing Jiayuan: The First Large-Scale Prefabricated Demonstration Project in Northwest China

Located in the Qinhan New City of the Xixian New Area in Shaanxi Province, Qinxing Jiayuan is the first large-scale prefabricated building pilot project in Northwest China. The project utilizes 36,545 prefabricated components, including prefabricated wall panels, composite slabs, and stairs, achieving an assembly rate of 60%. Its core advantages include:

  1. Construction Period and Environmental Protection: Through modular construction technology, the main structures of 12 buildings were capped within one year, significantly shortening the construction period compared to traditional methods while reducing dust and noise pollution.
  2. Technological Integration: The prefabricated components feature a 'sandwich' insulation design that integrates insulation, waterproofing, and structural functions, addressing issues of hollowing and cracking in traditional exterior walls. BIM technology enables millimeter-level precise assembly, enhancing construction quality.
  3. Standardized Production: The project promotes the factory-based production of prefabricated components, providing a practical model for the standardization of prefabricated buildings in Northwest China.

II. Practices in Qinghai: Adaptive Applications in Ecologically Fragile Areas

In response to the high-altitude, hypoxic, and ecologically fragile geographical environment, Qinghai has applied prefabricated housing technology to farmer and herdsman resettlement, livestock barn renovations, and cultural tourism development:

  1. Farmer and Herdsman Resettlement: In Daotanghe Town, Gonghe County, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, the 'unified planning and construction' model shortened the construction period and minimized ecological disturbance. In Xunhua Salar Autonomous County, Haidong City, old livestock barns were renovated into prefabricated new barns, providing warmth in winter and coolness in summer, and improving living comfort.
  2. Cultural Tourism Facilities: In the hinterland of the Qilian Mountains, prefabricated starry-sky houses and log cabins have been promoted, balancing ecological protection with tourism experiences and driving the development of green tourism.
  3. Industrial Upgrading: Qinghai has established a full-industry-chain prefabricated building base, with new prefabricated construction projects exceeding one million square meters. It has also launched a pilot program for agricultural machinery purchase subsidies to promote the application of modular livestock barns in the agricultural sector.

III. Technological Value and Application Areas

The prefabricated housing technology in Northwest China achieves three major breakthroughs through standardized design, factory-based production, and precise assembly:

  1. Efficiency Improvement: Modular construction shortens the construction period and reduces labor and time costs.
  2. Ecological Protection: It minimizes on-site construction pollution and meets the construction needs of high-altitude and ecologically fragile areas.
  3. Multi-Field Applications: Covering housing projects, ecological protection, cultural tourism development, and industrial upgrading, it provides technological support for sustainable development in Northwest China.

These cases demonstrate that prefabricated housing technology has become an important means of balancing construction efficiency and ecological protection in Northwest China, with the potential for wider application in more scenarios in the future.
