The "Tide Toilet" Incident at West Lake Scenic Area in Huizhou, Guangdong
A "tide toilet" once appeared at West Lake Scenic Area in Huizhou, Guangdong. This toilet had a manually "adjustable sign" at the entrance to switch between gender displays. The original intention of this design was to flexibly adjust the usage space of male and female toilets according to the differences in the number of male and female toilet users at different times, thereby improving the toilet's utilization efficiency. However, due to the fact that the sign could be easily adjusted and the threshold for modification was low, problems such as confusion between male and female toilet areas often occurred during actual use, causing inconvenience and distress to tourists. Currently, all the adjustable signs of the involved tide toilets have been removed, and they are about to be replaced with fixed slot-type door plates to solve the problem of sign confusion.
