Mobile Toilet Theft
A mobile toilet theft case occurred in Yaohai District, Hefei City, and the suspect has been controlled by the police. The case is under further investigation.

Case Overview
On the evening of August 29, 2023, Mr. Jiang, a resident of Yaohai District, Hefei City, discovered that a two-person mobile toilet, which had just been completed and was ready for delivery, was stolen from outside his door. The toilet, made of blue steel plates, was about 2 meters high, weighed several hundred kilograms, and was worth several thousand yuan. The next day, Mr. Jiang reported the case to the Daxing Police Station in the jurisdiction. Through investigation, the police found the stolen toilet at the doorstep of the suspect, Xia, on September 1.
Suspect's Motive and Method
The suspect, Xia, is a female resident of the neighborhood. Due to the large number of family members, concentrated morning toilet needs, and the long time it took for the elderly to use the toilet, family members faced inconvenience in using the toilet. To solve this problem, Xia, along with two customers, committed the theft late at night on the day of the incident by driving a tricycle. They loaded the mobile toilet onto the tricycle and fled the scene. After the theft, Xia placed the toilet at her doorstep, intending for the elderly to use it.
Case Investigation and Suspect's Attitude
Upon receiving the report, the police quickly launched an investigation. Through on-site inspections, surveillance tracking, and door-to-door inquiries, they identified Xia as the suspect. On September 1, the police found the stolen mobile toilet at Xia's doorstep and legally summoned her for investigation. Faced with the evidence, Xia initially denied the theft but eventually broke down under further interrogation and evidence presented by the police, and was subsequently taken into custody.
Case Progress and Legal Significance
Currently, the case is under further investigation, and the police need to conduct in-depth investigations into Xia's modus operandi, the identities of her accomplices, and the whereabouts of the stolen property. This case is a typical property theft case. Although the stolen object is an unconventional item (a mobile toilet), it still constitutes theft due to its clear economic value. According to Article 264 of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China, those who steal public or private property with a relatively large value or commit theft multiple times may be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years, criminal detention, or public surveillance. Xia's actions not only infringed upon others' property rights but also attracted social attention due to the involvement of public facilities (the mobile toilet may have been used in public places). The legal consequences will be determined based on the specific circumstances.
