Retrieve Phone from Mobile Toilet

Admin 22 de septiembre de 2026

Retrieving a phone from a mobile toilet requires taking appropriate measures based on the toilet type, phone location, and environmental conditions, prioritizing safety and minimizing damage. Here are the specific methods:

I. Determine the Toilet Type and Phone Location

  • Squat toilet/Regular toilet (without a trap): If the phone hasn't completely fallen deep into the pipe, try using a long-handled tool (such as pliers or long tweezers) to slowly retrieve it, avoiding pushing the phone deeper. You can also put a plastic bag on your hand to increase friction and then take it out, or make a simple hook with a wire or clothes hanger to carefully hook the phone case or gap and lift it.
  • Toilet with a trap: The trap is prone to trapping the phone. Do not blindly poke hard objects into it to avoid damaging the pipe or the phone. You can try using a suction cup or a plunger to block other drain openings and press hard to create a change in air pressure, which may sometimes push the phone back into the toilet. You can also disconnect the hose joint behind the toilet and look for the phone from below (you need to turn off the water supply and have some hands-on skills).

II. Operation Precautions

  • Power off and waterproof: If the phone is still powered on, immediately press and hold the power button to turn it off to avoid short-circuit damage. If the phone has been exposed to water, do not attempt to turn it on or charge it.
  • Wear protective gear: Wear rubber gloves before operation to avoid contact with sewage and prevent bacterial infection.
  • Avoid violent operations: Do not use hard objects such as wires or wooden sticks to forcefully pry to avoid scratching the inner wall of the pipe or causing further damage to the phone. Do not flush the toilet (it will push the phone deeper into the bend or the main sewer pipe), do not continue to poke hard with a wire (it will go deeper and deeper), and do not use a suction cup to suck from above (the bend of a squat toilet is smooth and cannot be sucked up).

III. Special Methods

  • Double-sided tape/Strong tape method: Use a thin stick (such as chopsticks or a long screwdriver) to attach strong double-sided tape or folded cloth tape to one end, insert it into the pipe, gently press it against the phone surface, let it sit for a few seconds, and then lift it vertically. The tape can adhere to irregular surfaces and is more stable than a wire.
  • Suction cup rod: Purchase a "phone retrieval device for toilets" or a "telescopic suction cup rod" (priced at about twenty to thirty yuan) online. The flexible shaft can bend, and the suction cup can adhere to a wet screen. It can be delivered quickly through food delivery platforms.
  • Remove the toilet: If the above methods are ineffective, you can use a wrench to loosen the screws connecting the toilet to the floor and lift the toilet to retrieve the phone (note that the sealing ring may be damaged and should be prepared in advance).

IV. Subsequent Handling Suggestions

  • Cleaning after retrieval: Rinse the phone surface with clean water (do not soak it), wipe it dry with a dry cloth, and do not use a hairdryer at high temperature to dry it (it may damage internal components). You can also wipe it dry with an absorbent cloth, put it in a sealed bag, and wrap it with rice or desiccant to absorb water.
  • Professional inspection: Even if the phone can be turned on, it should be sent to a repair shop for inspection to avoid corrosion of the motherboard due to water exposure.
  • Data backup: If the phone can still be connected to a computer, prioritize backing up important data to reduce losses.
