Mobile Toilet Renovation
Mobile toilet renovation can be achieved by using water storage barrels or tanks combined with simple tools, suitable for temporary or space-constrained scenarios.

1. Renovation Using Water Storage Barrels
Basic Structure Construction
- Split the water storage barrel vertically in the middle to form two semi-circular barrel bodies. Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden board to serve as a mobile base. Attach the split barrel bottoms to the wooden board using self-tapping screws to ensure stability.
- Install wooden strips vertically along the sides of the barrel bodies, increasing the barrel height (usually to 1.8-2 meters) with self-tapping screws to form the internal space frame of the toilet. Cut rectangular openings on the sides of the wooden strips as doorways, install door frames, and cover with plastic soft boards as walls for both lightness and waterproofing.
Roof and Waterproofing Treatment
- Invert the upper half of the water storage barrel onto the top of the wooden strips as a roof, securing it with self-tapping screws. The roof edges should be coated with waterproof paint (such as polyurethane coating) to prevent rainwater leakage and enhance overall aesthetics.
Drainage and Facility Installation
- Cut a circular hole at the center of the barrel bottom, install a drainage pipe (5-10 cm in diameter), and connect it to an external water storage container or sewer. Drill holes on the sides to install direct connectors for the toilet flushing system.
- Install a simple toilet (such as a portable squat toilet or seat toilet), a small water tank (5-10 liters in capacity), a bathroom heater (optional), and a sink inside. The sink drainage pipe should be connected to the barrel bottom drainage system to ensure centralized wastewater discharge.
2. Renovation Using Water Storage Tanks and Pallets
Mobile Base and Tank Treatment
- Fix universal wheels at the four corners of the bottom of a pallet (wooden or metal) to ensure load-bearing capacity (recommended ≥50 kg per wheel). Place a recycled water storage tank (plastic or metal) on the pallet and secure it with straps or screws.
- Use an angle grinder to cut the top of the water storage tank to form an open tank body. Stack two tank bodies vertically and fix them at the joints with self-tapping screws to increase internal height (usually ≥2 meters after stacking).
Doorway and Drainage System
- Cut a rectangular opening (approximately 60×80 cm) on the side of the tank body as a doorway, and polish the edges smoothly to prevent scratches. Cut a circular hole on the internal floor, install a drainage elbow (with odor prevention function) and a pipe, and connect it to the external drainage system.
Facility Installation and Door Fixing
- Install a toilet, faucet, sink, and showerhead (requiring connection to a small water pump for water supply) inside. Wall-mounted faucets and sinks are recommended to save space.
- Fix a wooden board at the doorway as a door, connect it to the tank body with hinges, and install a lock to ensure privacy. The door surface can be covered with waterproof cloth or plastic board to enhance durability.
Key Points of Renovation: Both schemes should prioritize ensuring structural stability, smooth drainage, and facility waterproofing. Material selection should focus on lightness and corrosion resistance (such as plastic and stainless steel), and tool operation should be standardized (e.g., wearing goggles when cutting with an angle grinder). The renovated mobile toilets are suitable for construction sites, camping, disaster emergency response, and other scenarios, with low cost and rapid deployment capabilities.
