Principles of Outdoor Mobile Toilets
The working principles of outdoor mobile toilets mainly include chemical treatment, biodegradation, packing, and foam sealing, among others. The core is to treat waste and control odors through different technologies while being equipped with a ventilation system to maintain fresh air.

Chemical Treatment
Chemical treatment mobile toilets have a waste storage tank inside. Before use, chemical agents and clean water need to be added in proportion. The main functions of the chemical agents include:
- Decomposing solid waste: Through chemical reactions, feces and other solid substances are liquefied for easier subsequent treatment;
- Inhibiting microbial growth: The bactericidal components in the agents can effectively control the reproduction of bacteria and viruses, reducing odor generation;
- Masking odors: Some agents are added with fragrance components that can release a pleasant scent to mask residual odors. This type of toilet requires regular cleaning of the waste liquid tank. Professional personnel will transport the full waste liquid to designated locations for treatment and replenish the chemical agents. Its advantages lie in high treatment efficiency and wide applicability, but it requires continuous investment in agent costs, and the waste liquid needs professional treatment to avoid environmental pollution.
Biodegradation
The storage tank of a biodegradation mobile toilet is filled with a degradation agent containing specific microorganisms (such as enzymes or bacteria). These microorganisms feed on waste and decompose it through metabolic processes into:
- Harmless gases: The main products are carbon dioxide and water, which can be directly discharged into the environment;
- A small amount of residue: Some advanced models can further convert the residue into compost material for soil improvement. This technology is suitable for long-term fixed camps or ecological protection areas with high environmental protection requirements because it does not require frequent cleaning and the products can be utilized as resources. However, the activity of microorganisms is greatly affected by environmental factors such as temperature and humidity, and degradation agents need to be replenished regularly to maintain efficiency.
Other Technical Types
- Packing Type: Waste is collected by automatically placing garbage bags. After use, the bag is sealed and replaced with a new one, avoiding direct contact with waste. It is suitable for temporary events or scenarios without a water source;
- Foam Sealing Type: A foaming device is used to squeeze foam to cover the inner wall of the toilet bowl, forming a sealing layer to prevent odors and reduce the amount of flushing water, resulting in significant water-saving effects;
- Enhanced Microbial Degradation Type: Combines biodegradation with resource utilization technology to convert waste into fertilizer and clean water, achieving circular utilization.
Ventilation System Design
Regardless of the treatment technology used, mobile toilets must be equipped with a ventilation system to maintain fresh indoor air. Common designs include:
- Natural Convection: Air flow is utilized through top ventilation ducts to discharge odors;
- Forced Exhaust: Small fans are installed to accelerate air exchange and improve ventilation efficiency. The ventilation system can effectively reduce the odor concentration inside the toilet and enhance user comfort.
