Are Mobile Toilets or Fixed Public Toilets Better?
Both mobile toilets and fixed public toilets have their own advantages, and it is not possible to simply determine which is 'better'. The choice depends on specific scenarios and needs.

Construction Method and Efficiency
Fixed public toilets are constructed using traditional on-site methods, requiring building materials such as steel bars, cement, and bricks. The process involves foundation pouring, wall construction, and other steps, resulting in a sturdy structure. However, the construction period is relatively long, and land and pipeline layouts need to be planned in advance. Mobile toilets, on the other hand, have functional modules (such as toilet stalls, sinks, and waste storage tanks) prefabricated in factories. These modules are transported to the site and assembled directly, allowing for faster setup, typically taking a few hours to a few days, making them particularly suitable for urgent needs or temporary scenarios.
Mobility and Flexibility
Once built, fixed public toilets have a fixed location and are difficult to move. If relocation is required, they need to be demolished and rebuilt, which is costly. The core advantage of mobile toilets is their ability to be transferred to different locations as needed. For example, after large-scale exhibitions or outdoor markets, they can be quickly disassembled and transported to other areas for reuse, avoiding resource waste.
Service Life and Durability
As permanent facilities, fixed public toilets are designed to last more than 20 years, withstanding long-term exposure to wind, sun, and daily wear and tear, resulting in lower maintenance costs. Mobile toilets have a relatively shorter service life, with ordinary models lasting about 5-10 years. However, high-quality models can also last for many years through the use of anti-corrosion materials and reinforced structures, making them more suitable for short-term or temporary scenarios.
Supporting Facilities and Space Design
Fixed public toilets generally have larger spaces, allowing for the design of complete water supply and drainage systems, ventilation systems, and the inclusion of barrier-free facilities and baby care rooms to meet diverse needs. Mobile toilets are limited by their size, resulting in relatively compact spaces and simpler supporting facilities. However, modern mobile toilets incorporate technological optimizations such as water-saving devices (e.g., vacuum flushing systems) and smart sensors to still meet basic toilet needs. Some high-end models are even equipped with air conditioning and deodorization systems.
Construction Cost and Economy
Fixed public toilets involve high upfront costs, including land acquisition, foundation construction, decoration, and pipeline installation. The cost of a single toilet can reach hundreds of thousands of yuan or even more. Mobile toilets, on the other hand, have lower overall costs, especially small models (such as single-stall toilets), which cost only a few thousand to tens of thousands of yuan. Additionally, they do not require large-scale foundation construction, making them suitable for scenarios with limited budgets or temporary use.
Differences in Applicable Scenarios
- Fixed Public Toilets: Suitable for scenarios with long-term and stable pedestrian traffic, such as city main roads, commercial streets, large shopping malls, high-speed rail stations, airports, and residential communities, providing long-lasting services and blending into the urban environment.
- Mobile Toilets: Suitable for scenarios with short-term or mobile pedestrian traffic, such as temporary events (concerts, sports meets), construction sites, municipal construction sections, and peak tourist seasons in scenic spots, allowing for quick response to changing needs.
