Barrier-Free Access for Mobile Toilets

Admin 13 de octubre de 2026

The installation and use of barrier-free access for mobile toilets must strictly adhere to the following standards to ensure the safety and convenience of special groups:

I. Slope and Width Standards for the Access

  1. Slope Control: The slope of the ramp should be ≤1:12, meaning that for every 1-meter rise, the horizontal length should be ≥12 meters. If the height of a single ramp section exceeds 0.75 meters, a buffer platform should be installed, and it is recommended that the length of a single ramp section be ≤9 meters to avoid difficulties in use due to an excessively long slope.
  2. Width Requirements: The clear width of a single access should be ≥0.9 meters. If two-way passage is required, the width should be ≥1.2 meters. The surface of the access should be made of non-slip materials, such as non-slip floor tiles or non-slip tapes, to reduce the risk of slipping.

II. Entrance and Facility Connection Standards

  1. Entrance Design: The entrance of the mobile toilet should be equipped with a water-blocking sill that is ≥0.3 meters high to prevent rainwater from flowing back in. If the door opens outward, a turning space of 1.5 meters × 1.5 meters should be reserved to ensure that wheelchair users can enter and exit smoothly.
  2. Handrail Installation: Handrails should be installed on both sides of the access at a height of 0.9 meters, with a diameter of 30 - 40 millimeters. The ends should extend 0.3 meters towards the wall or the ground to avoid exposing sharp ends. The handrail material should be sturdy and non-slip, such as stainless steel or non-slip plastic.
  3. Signage Guidance: A sign indicating "Barrier-Free Access" should be placed beside the access, using a combination of Braille and standard graphics to facilitate identification by visually impaired users.

III. Detail Design and Acceptance Standards

  1. Surface Flatness: The height difference on the surface of the access should be ≤2 millimeters, and the joints should be rounded to prevent wheelchairs from getting stuck or users from tripping.
  2. Night Lighting: If the access is used at night, lighting equipment with an illuminance of ≥200 lux should be installed on both sides. The light should be even and shadow-free to ensure the safe passage of users.
  3. Wheelchair Turning Space: A wheelchair turning space of 1.5 meters × 1.5 meters should be reserved near the access for quick evacuation in case of emergencies.

Practical Application Suggestions: In areas such as Pudong New District, some mobile public toilets have been equipped with barrier-free access and stainless steel handrails, demonstrating care for special groups. If you need to rent eco-friendly mobile toilets (such as in Hebi area), it is recommended to confirm in advance whether the service provider has professional qualifications for installing barrier-free facilities and request relevant test reports based on the "Code for Design of Accessibility" (GB50649 - 2011) to ensure that the facilities meet national standards.
