Microbial Decomposition Mobile Toilet
The microbial decomposition mobile toilet is an environmentally friendly sanitation facility that utilizes microbial strains to degrade excreta, achieving in-situ harmless treatment. The following provides an introduction from the perspectives of functional principles, product features, structural technology, application cases, and industry status:

Functional Principles
Through feces-urine separation and microbial degradation technology, excreta is transformed into harmless substances. Feces undergo steps such as stirring, deodorization, fermentation, decomposition, and evaporation, ultimately being converted into carbon dioxide, water vapor, and a small amount of ammonia gas for emission. Approximately 5% of the solid components remain and are processed by microbes into high-quality, odorless, and non-toxic organic fertilizer. Urine, on the other hand, is deodorized and decomposed into reclaimed water for discharge. The entire process requires no water flushing, enabling resource recycling.
Product Features
- Environmentally Friendly and Efficient: Odorless and pollution-free, eliminating the need for sewer networks and wastewater treatment systems, thereby reducing the environmental burden.
- Water and Energy Saving: Designed without water flushing, suitable for water-scarce environments; the fermentation tank maintains constant temperature heating (approximately 800W) and mechanical transmission consumes 3-5 kWh of electricity per day, resulting in low energy consumption.
- Flexible and Convenient: Lightweight and compact, without restrictions from water supply and drainage pipes, facilitating easy movement and rapid deployment to adapt to various scenarios.
- Simple Maintenance: Daily use does not require professional maintenance personnel; microbial strains are replaced every 3-6 months, with simple operation.
Structural Technology
The core components include a squatting pan, fermentation and degradation tank, exhaust pipe, exhaust fan, mechanical transmission device, and PLC constant temperature and humidity control device. The fermentation tank is equipped with microbial strains and carriers, with a heating device installed at the bottom exterior and a mechanical transmission device at the end exterior to drive the stirrer, ensuring thorough mixing and degradation of excreta. The control method is automatically adjusted by a computer program (PLC) to ensure stable degradation effects.
Application Cases
It has been widely applied in public areas such as Beijing Olympic venues, the Badaling Great Wall, and 13 venues of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. The carbon-neutral public toilets deployed in Chengdu in 2024 adopt this technology, saving over 3,000 tons of water annually. The steel frame structure supports operation in environments as cold as minus 28 degrees Celsius, verifying its adaptability under extreme conditions.
Industry Status
With increasing environmental protection requirements, the proportion of microbial degradation products in procurement and cultural tourism project tenders has been rising year by year. However, the industry lacks unified mandatory national standards, with significant variations among manufacturers in key parameters such as microbial strain activity, degradation tank volume, and insulation design. Some enterprises use 'microbial degradation' as a gimmick, merely performing solid-liquid separation or ignoring low-temperature impacts in practice, necessitating strengthened supervision and standardization.
