Admin 16 de septiembre de 2026

There is no absolute upper limit to the maximum size of container houses, but among the common standard sizes, the external dimensions of a 40-foot high-cube container (40HQ) are 12.192 meters in length, 2.438 meters in width, and 2.896 meters in height, with an available internal height of 2.655 meters, making it a type with a relatively large volume among internationally standardized containers.

1. Size Classifications of International Standard Containers

The commonly used dry cargo containers (DRY CONTAINER) in international maritime shipping are classified into the following specifications:

  • 20-foot standard container (20GP): The external dimensions are 6.058 meters in length, 2.438 meters in width, and 2.591 meters in height, with an available internal height of approximately 2.35 meters, suitable for single-person offices or small shops.
  • 40-foot standard container (40GP): The external dimensions are 12.192 meters in length, 2.438 meters in width, and 2.591 meters in height, with an available internal height of approximately 2.35 meters, which can be divided into multi-functional spaces or dormitories for multiple people.
  • 40-foot high-cube container (40HQ): The external dimensions are the same as those of the 40GP, but the height is increased to 2.896 meters, with an available internal height of 2.655 meters, suitable for exhibition halls or housing with height requirements.
  • 45-foot high-cube container: The internal volume is 13.58 meters in length, 2.34 meters in width, and 2.68 meters in height, with a general gross weight for cargo loading of 29 tons and a volume of 86 cubic meters. It belongs to an oversized container but is rarely used for housing renovation.

2. Flexibility in Customizing Container Sizes

In addition to standard sizes, container houses can be customized according to needs:

  • Length: It can be extended to 3 meters × 12 meters or even longer by splicing multiple standard containers. For example, a huge black container building is formed by the crisscross combination of 16 standard containers, creating a four-story structure.
  • Width: Options include 2.5 meters, 2.55 meters, 3 meters, 4 meters, etc., breaking through the traditional container width limit of 2.438 meters.
  • Height: In addition to the standard height, custom heights of 2.6 meters, 2.7 meters, 2.8 meters, 2.9 meters, etc., can be made to meet different functional requirements.

3. Sizes of Special-Type Containers

  • Open-top container: The top is open, suitable for loading oversized cargo. The internal volume of a 20-foot open-top container is 5.89 meters in length, 2.32 meters in width, and 2.31 meters in height; the internal volume of a 40-foot open-top container is 12.01 meters in length, 2.33 meters in width, and 2.15 meters in height.
  • Flat-rack container: The bottom is flat, suitable for loading overweight cargo. The internal volume of a 20-foot flat-rack container is 5.85 meters in length, 2.23 meters in width, and 2.15 meters in height; the internal volume of a 40-foot flat-rack container is 12.05 meters in length, 2.12 meters in width, and 1.96 meters in height.
