Marathon Mobile Toilet Installation

Admin 11 de octubre de 2026

The installation of mobile toilets for marathons should be systematically carried out from six aspects: site survey, basic installation, zoning setup, installation acceptance, post-race removal, and time planning to ensure safety and convenience during the event.

1. Site Survey Before Installation
It is necessary to clarify the locations of key areas such as the start/finish line, refreshment stations, and spectator zones with the event organizers, and have technicians from the rental company conduct on-site measurements. The following key points should be confirmed:

  • Location Requirements: Mobile toilets should be placed within 300 meters of the athlete assembly area, avoiding areas with dense drainage pipes to prevent damage to underground facilities during later construction.
  • Passageway Reservation: Each toilet unit should have at least a 1.5-meter safety passageway reserved to ensure space for personnel evacuation and equipment maintenance.
  • Terrain Adaptation: Priority should be given to flat areas. If the site has a slope, the toilet's levelness should be adjusted using bedding or supports.

2. Basic Installation Specifications
Although installation standards vary slightly for different types of toilets (such as single-unit and trailer-mounted types), the core steps include:

  • Ground Preparation: Level the site and lay anti-slip mats to prevent personnel from slipping on rainy or wet days.
  • Fixing Method: Use expansion screws to fix the toilets on hard ground or use counterweights (such as concrete blocks) to enhance stability, preventing toppling due to strong winds or personnel collisions.
  • Water and Electricity Connection: The sewage pipes should be connected to the municipal sewer network or temporary sewage storage tanks, ensuring a tight seal without leaks. The power supply lines should be kept away from water sources and equipped with leakage protection devices.

3. Zoning Setup Principles
Plan scientifically based on the event scale and athlete traffic:

  • Start/Finish Area: One mobile toilet should be provided for every 500 athletes. For example, the 2025 Urumqi Marathon set up toilets at this standard at the exhibition center start point.
  • Race Course Along the Way: One toilet point should be set up every 2 kilometers, with a male-to-female toilet ratio of 1:1.5 to balance usage efficiency and fairness.
  • Special Areas: Accessible toilets should be added near medical stations, equipped with handrails, low-level sinks, and other facilities to meet the needs of injured or disabled individuals.

4. Installation Acceptance Points
After installation, checks should be conducted in three aspects:

  • Appearance Cleanliness: The toilet shell should be free of damage or stains, with clear markings (such as 'Male', 'Female', 'Accessible').
  • Function Testing: The flushing system should have sufficient water volume and smooth drainage, lighting and ventilation equipment should operate normally, and the odor concentration should meet hygiene standards.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Each toilet should be equipped with spare toilet paper and hand soap, and a cleaning tool room should be set up for quick maintenance.

5. Post-Race Removal Process
After the event, operations should be carried out in order:

  • Waste Disposal: First, empty the sewage storage tanks or septic tanks, and spray disinfectant inside the toilets to kill bacteria.
  • Equipment Disassembly: Remove the fixing devices, categorize and store accessories such as screws and counterweights to prevent loss.
  • Site Restoration: Clean up residual garbage in the installation area and backfill holes caused by construction to ensure a flat site.

6. Installation Time Planning
It is recommended to complete deployment 72 hours in advance to leave a buffer period for debugging and emergency handling. For example, all installation work for the 2025 Urumqi Marathon was completed the day before the event to ensure stable equipment operation.
