Marathon Mobile Toilet Flushing

Admin 11 de octubre de 2026

The flushing methods for mobile toilets at marathons mainly include water-flushing and chemical-flushing types, with specific mechanisms and characteristics as follows:

Water-flushing Mobile Toilets

Water-flushing is a common type of mobile toilet used in marathon events, with its core principle being the cleaning of the toilet bowl through water flow. For example, the leased water-flushing mobile toilets used in the 2024 Loudi 'Materials Valley' Marathon feature a built-in water tank design. The water tank stores cleaning water, and after use, the user triggers the flushing by pressing a button or through automatic sensing, with the water flow carrying the waste into the waste storage tank or directly into the municipal sewer system (if connected to the drainage system).

The mobile toilets at the Beijing Marathon have further optimized their water-saving performance. Their toilet bowls generally adopt a water-saving design, with the water volume per flush controlled to be below 30% of that of a standard toilet. This water-saving mechanism relies on the siphon principle and pressure control in fluid mechanics: when the user triggers the flushing, the water in the tank quickly enters the toilet bowl, creating a brief high flow rate that uses the siphon effect to draw the waste into the drainage pipe; at the same time, precise control of the water pressure ensures that the flushing force is sufficient to clean the surface of the toilet bowl while avoiding excessive water usage. This design not only meets hygiene requirements but also significantly reduces water consumption, making it particularly suitable for outdoor large-scale event scenarios.

Chemical-flushing Mobile Toilets

Chemical-flushing mobile toilets achieve cleaning through recirculating flushing from a storage tank. Their working principle is as follows: chemical agents (such as disinfectants, deodorizers, and decomposers) are pre-added to the storage tank. After use, the agents mix with a small amount of water to form a flushing solution, which is sprayed to clean the toilet bowl. The waste, mixed with the chemical agents, then enters the waste storage tank for harmless treatment.

The advantage of such toilets is that a single tank can accommodate waste from approximately 200 uses, making them suitable for event scenarios with high foot traffic and limited resupply. However, it should be noted that chemical agents may have potential impacts on the soil: if the waste is improperly disposed of (such as being directly dumped into the natural environment), the chemical components in the agents may disrupt the microbial balance in the soil and affect plant growth. Therefore, event organizers need to ensure that the waste is properly handled by professional agencies, such as through sealed transportation to designated treatment plants for solid-liquid separation, chemical neutralization, and other harmless treatment operations before discharge.

Summary

The choice of flushing method for mobile toilets at marathons requires comprehensive consideration of hygiene, water conservation, environmental protection, and usage scenarios. Water-flushing is more dependent on water supply but offers better cleaning effects and user experience; chemical-flushing is suitable for water-scarce or temporary scenarios but requires strict management of the waste treatment process. Event organizers can flexibly combine the two types according to actual needs to balance resource utilization and environmental protection.
