Lhasa Outdoor Mobile Toilet Design
The design of outdoor mobile toilets in Lhasa needs to take into account the unique plateau environment, comprehensively considering multiple dimensions such as waste treatment, material weather resistance, freeze-proof water conservation, energy supply, wind-resistant structure, and scenario adaptation to achieve a balance between sanitation protection and ecological conservation.

1. Waste Treatment System
The low air pressure on the plateau can easily cause abnormal flow rates or air blockages in conventional gravity sewage systems. Therefore, pressure-assisted or vacuum suction technologies need to be adopted to ensure directional collection of waste through active pressurization and avoid freezing risks. Biodegradation technology converts solid waste into harmless substances through specific bacterial agents, while chemical solidification technology forms sealed solids by mixing with coagulants, both of which do not require connection to sewer pipes and are suitable for remote areas.
2. Material Selection and Weather Resistance
The outer shell should be made of polymer materials with a high proportion of UV stabilizers. Metal components should match the coefficient of thermal expansion and contraction and be coated with a corrosion-resistant layer. Moving parts (such as hinges) should operate stably in an environment with a daily temperature difference of 20°C. The outer shell should have a low thermal conductivity coefficient, and the surface UV-resistant coating can prevent embrittlement or fading, extending the service life.
3. Water Resource Utilization and Freeze Prevention
Waterless or micro-water flushing technologies (such as foam sealing and biodegradable film packaging) should be adopted, or a small-scale water treatment and recycling unit should be provided to achieve recycled flushing through filtration and disinfection, reducing freshwater consumption. The water system (water storage tanks, pipes) should be equipped with electric tracing or low-temperature flexible materials and wrapped with insulation layers to prevent freezing.
4. Energy Supply and Autonomy
Solar photovoltaic panels are the mainstream energy source and should be optimally installed according to the solar radiation angle on the plateau. The electricity is used for lighting, ventilation, and heating. The energy storage system should use low-temperature-resistant batteries and be equipped with a battery management module to cope with the challenge of shortened daylight hours in winter and ensure continuous operation of the equipment.
5. Structural Design and Wind Resistance
The frame should adopt a lightweight alloy modular structure, which is easy to disassemble and transport through bolt connections and can adjust the internal space to accommodate different pedestrian traffic volumes. The structural design should consider strong wind loads to ensure stability and adapt to the variable climate on the plateau.
6. Type Selection and Scenario Adaptation
- Packing-type (waterless): Suitable for short-term events or remote pastoral areas. A formula containing active bacteria strains effective at -15°C should be selected, and the door lock should have a freeze-proof design.
- Vacuum water-saving type: Suitable for scenic spots or temporary municipal installations. The vacuum pump should be marked with continuous operation certification at an altitude of over 3000m, and the recommended volume of the waste storage tank is ≥350L.
- Foam sealing type: Suitable for high-traffic or odor-sensitive places. The foam liquid should be resistant to low temperatures without solidifying, and the control panel should have a low-temperature start preheating function.
