Jiayuguan Water Circulation Mobile Toilet

Admin 09 de octubre de 2026

The Jiayuguan water circulation mobile toilet is an eco-friendly outdoor sanitation facility designed for the local special environment, achieving water conservation and efficient waste treatment through solid-liquid separation, water recycling, and evaporative cooling technologies.

Located in the Gobi Desert, Jiayuguan faces severe water scarcity and limited external water supply networks. Traditional mobile toilets, which rely on collection tanks or external water sources, suffer from high water consumption and frequent waste removal needs. The water circulation mobile toilet employs solid-liquid separation technology to separate solid and liquid waste from excreta: solid waste is compressed and packaged, significantly reducing its volume for centralized disposal; liquid waste undergoes disinfection and filtration processes to meet hygienic standards for non-contact flushing, forming an internal water recycling system. This design dramatically reduces reliance on external water sources, making it particularly suitable for water-scarce Gobi regions.

Some facilities further integrate evaporative cooling units, utilizing the dry Gobi air to accelerate liquid evaporation. By spraying purified water onto heat sinks or special media surfaces, dry air rapidly carries away moisture, further reducing the volume of remaining concentrated liquid. Although this semi-closed loop design increases initial equipment costs, it significantly reduces waste removal frequency over the long term, lowering transportation costs and environmental burdens. For example, traditional collection tanks require daily removal, whereas the water circulation system with evaporative cooling can extend removal cycles to several days or even a week, making it ideal for high-traffic scenic spots or temporary event venues.

From a technical perspective, the core advantages of water circulation mobile toilets include:

  1. Water conservation: Internal recycling and evaporative cooling reduce flushing water consumption by over 80% compared to traditional toilets;
  2. Environmental protection: Encapsulated solid waste poses no leakage risks, while purified liquid prevents soil contamination;
  3. Adaptability: Modular design enables rapid deployment without reliance on external water supply networks, suitable for extreme environments like deserts and Gobi regions.

Currently, this technology has been piloted in areas such as the Jiayuguan Pass scenic spot and the Great Wall's First Beacon Tower, effectively alleviating toilet pressure during peak tourist seasons while providing a replicable solution for public sanitation facilities in arid regions. In the future, advancements in materials science and energy-saving technologies are expected to further optimize the energy efficiency and costs of water circulation mobile toilets, promoting their wider adoption across more scenarios.
