Japan Mobile Toilet

Admin 20 de septiembre de 2026

Japan's mobile toilets mainly include two types: new toilets transformed from construction site mobile toilets and portable mobile toilets.

Transformation of Construction Site Mobile Toilets

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan once set new requirements for temporary toilets at construction sites, stipulating the use of Western-style toilets that can flush the lower body. Previously, mobile toilets at construction sites were mostly traditional squat toilets, which were prone to getting dirty and had poor sanitary conditions. The newly developed flushable Western-style toilets not only make it more convenient for female workers to use the restroom but also significantly improve the sanitary conditions at construction sites. More importantly, in the event of earthquakes and other disasters, these mobile toilets can also serve as sanitary facilities for disaster-stricken residents, playing an important emergency role. However, the monthly rental price of these new mobile toilets ranges from 30,000 to 50,000 yen, which is relatively high in cost. To this end, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism provides a subsidy of 45,000 yen per mobile toilet to each construction company to encourage their use.

Portable Mobile Toilets

  • "Pocket Toilet": It is compact in size, only as big as the palm of a hand, and contains a bag that can hold 1000ml, a coagulant, a deodorant, an odor-proof bag, and hand sanitizer, among other items. When using it, you first need to find a toilet stand and put the bag over the stand; if there is no stand, you can also spread out the bag and use it as a squat toilet. After that, put in the deodorant and other materials, fold up the bag and put it into the odor-proof bag, and finally use the hand sanitizer to wash your hands.
  • Portable Toilet Designed by Oki Sato: This portable toilet consists of six parts, including four aluminum tubes, a C-shaped seat cushion, a tent, tissue paper, a garbage bag, and a coagulant. All the components can fit into a handbag for easy portability. When using it, insert the aluminum tubes under the C-shaped seat cushion. If there are no aluminum tubes, you can also use mineral water bottles filled with water or sand as a substitute, and then put on the garbage bag for use. There are small holes on the C-shaped seat cushion where you can insert the aluminum tubes to fix an opened umbrella and then put on the tent. The nylon fabric of the tent can be used as a cloak in normal times. The handbag is waterproof and can not only hold the components but also be used as a water bag, holding up to 16 liters of water. These portable toilet designs are mainly used for emergency living conditions during earthquakes, typhoons, and other severe weather conditions.
