Is Prefabricated Insulated Housing Safe?

Admin 18 de septiembre de 2026

Prefabricated insulated housing is unsafe, with numerous safety hazards and relatively low safety levels. Details are as follows:

Poor seismic resistance: Prefabricated panel houses have poor integrity, resembling structures built with building blocks. The connections between the prefabricated panels and walls, as well as between panels themselves, are not secure. During an earthquake, the floor slabs and walls can easily separate instantly, causing the house to collapse suddenly without any warning signs of cracks or time for deformation buffering, seriously threatening the lives of the occupants.

Vulnerable connection points: Prefabricated panels and walls are usually connected through simple overlapping, and the gaps between panels are simply filled. There is a lack of reinforcing structures such as ring beams and structural columns. When the foundation settles or the walls crack, the panels can become misaligned and loose. Over time, the connection points are prone to weathering, with the steel bars rusting and their strength decreasing, which may trigger a chain of collapse accidents.

Material issues: There are many cases of shoddy workmanship in the materials used for prefabricated panel houses. These houses are brittle and prone to fracture. The steel bars in regular prefabricated panels are relatively thin, while some small workshops even use thin steel wires instead of steel bars. The concrete grades do not meet the standards, and the thickness is insufficient. When the house exceeds its load-bearing capacity, the prefabricated panels can break instantly without any warning, posing a great safety hazard to the occupants.

Weak disaster resistance: Prefabricated panel houses are assembled from numerous cement components, resulting in an overall structure that is not stable enough to effectively withstand the impacts of natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods. If an authoritative institution determines that the main structure of the house is damaged and cannot resist natural disasters, the house will be demolished.

Limited service life: The service life of prefabricated panel houses is generally only 30 - 40 years, and some even last only 20 years. After the service life expires, the main structure of the house will gradually age, posing a risk of collapse and seriously affecting living safety.
