Is Container House Thermally Insulated?
Whether a container house is thermally insulated depends on material selection and renovation techniques. Unrenovated standard bare containers are not thermally insulated, but good thermal insulation can be achieved through scientific design and standardized construction.

I. Performance of Unrenovated Container Houses Standard container houses, if not subjected to any thermal insulation treatment, have highly conductive metal shells that cannot effectively block heat transfer. In winter, indoor heat rapidly dissipates, leading to a sharp drop in temperature; in summer, external high temperatures directly conduct into the interior, creating an extreme environment of 'cold in winter and hot in summer' that is difficult to meet basic living or office needs.
II. Core Methods to Improve Thermal Insulation Performance
Material Selection Materials with low thermal conductivity and excellent thermal insulation properties should be selected, such as expanded polystyrene (EPS) boards, polyurethane foam (PU) boards, and rock wool boards. These materials significantly reduce the efficiency of indoor-outdoor heat exchange by reducing heat conduction paths. For example, the thermal conductivity of polyurethane foam boards can be as low as 0.022 W/(m·K), which is less than 1/50 of that of traditional metal materials.
Adding Thermal Insulation Layers Continuous thermal insulation barriers can be formed by attaching external thermal insulation layers (such as pasting EPS boards on exterior walls) or installing internal thermal insulation boards (such as rock wool linings). External thermal insulation can avoid thermal bridge effects, while internal thermal insulation simplifies the construction process; both can effectively maintain stable indoor temperatures.
Optimizing Window and Door Design Double- or triple-glazed windows with inert gas layers inside can further reduce heat conduction; sealing strips should be installed at the joints between window frames and walls to reduce heat loss caused by air infiltration. Experiments show that high-quality sealing strips can improve the airtightness of windows and doors by more than 30%.
Detail Sealing Treatment The joints between thermal insulation materials should be filled with special sealants to prevent gaps from becoming heat conduction channels; the connections between thermal insulation layers and container structures should be sealed with elastic waterproof tapes or foaming agents to ensure the overall airtightness of the system.
III. Actual Effects After Renovation After professional renovation, container houses can maintain indoor temperatures between 18-22℃ when the outdoor temperature is -10℃ in winter; in summer, when the outdoor temperature is 35℃, the temperature difference between indoors and outdoors can reach 8-12℃, significantly reducing the frequency of air conditioning use. When combined with auxiliary heating systems, winter energy consumption is 40%-60% lower than that of traditional buildings, meeting the requirements of green building energy efficiency standards.
