Interior Dimensions of Container Houses
Admin 17 de septiembre de 2026
The interior dimensions of container houses vary significantly depending on the type, with common specifications as follows:

I. Standard Container Sizes
- 20-foot container: Interior length of 5.89 meters, width of 2.32 meters, height of 2.31 meters, with an approximate volume of 31.5 cubic meters. These containers are commonly used for small residences or temporary office spaces, offering compact yet functional spaces.
- 40-foot container: Interior length of 5.898 meters (some sources indicate 12.024 meters, possibly due to different measurement standards), width of 2.352 meters, height of 2.39 meters, with an approximate volume of 67.6 cubic meters. Its capacity is twice that of a 20-foot container, suitable for medium-scale residential or commercial use.
- 40-foot high cube container: Interior length of 12.024 meters, width of 2.352 meters, height of 2.9 meters, with a larger volume than a standard 40-foot container. By increasing vertical space, it meets the needs for higher ceilings, such as setting up mezzanines or installing large equipment.
- 45-foot high cube container: Interior length of 13.58 meters, width of 2.34 meters, height of 2.68 meters, with a volume of up to 86 cubic meters. These containers typically have a gross cargo weight of 29 tons, suitable for scenarios requiring extra-large spaces, such as warehousing or industrial use.
II. Open-top and Flat-rack Container Sizes
- 20-foot open-top container: Interior dimensions are the same as a standard 20-foot container (length of 5.89 meters, width of 2.32 meters, height of 2.31 meters), but the top can be opened for easy loading of oversized cargo, with a volume of 31.5 cubic meters.
- 40-foot open-top container: Interior length of 12.01 meters, width of 2.33 meters, height of 2.15 meters, with a volume of 65 cubic meters. Its design optimizes the top opening structure, suitable for transporting large machinery or building materials.
- 20-foot flat-rack container: Interior length of 5.85 meters, width of 2.23 meters, height of 2.15 meters, with a volume of 28 cubic meters. The flat-rack design lowers the center of gravity, suitable for transporting heavy equipment or vehicles.
- 40-foot flat-rack container: Interior length of 12.05 meters, width of 2.12 meters, height of 1.96 meters, with a volume of 50 cubic meters. It has stronger load-bearing capacity, with a gross cargo weight of up to 36 tons, commonly used in industrial logistics.
III. Customized and Special Specification Sizes
- Residential customization: By combining multiple standard containers, flexible areas ranging from 30 to 120 square meters can be achieved. For example, a combination of 20+40 feet yields approximately 95 square meters (including common areas), while a double 40-foot combination yields about 135 square meters (with a mezzanine design). Some manufacturers also offer non-standard widths (3-3.5 meters) or curved roof designs to optimize the living experience.
- Industry-specific specifications: Foldable container houses can expand to twice the size of a standard container when unfolded, suitable for rapidly deployable temporary housing; sloped-roof containers have an eave height of 3.2 meters and a slope of 15-30 degrees, combining drainage functionality with aesthetic appeal.
