How to Transport Container Houses

Admin 15 de septiembre de 2026

The transportation of container houses mainly adopts two methods: hoisting and roll-on/roll-off, with the specific choice depending on the transportation scenario and equipment conditions.

Hoisting Method

Hoisting is the most common method for container transportation, relying on professional lifting machinery for loading and unloading. At dedicated container terminals, quayside container cranes are the core equipment, efficiently transferring containers between ships and docks. In freight yards, different machinery is selected based on space and requirements:

  • Straddle Carriers: They can flexibly move around the freight yard, suitable for short-distance and efficient transportation;
  • Rubber-Tired Gantry Cranes: They have high mobility and can freely move and operate within a certain range;
  • Rail-Mounted Gantry Cranes: They offer excellent stability, running along predetermined tracks to accurately complete hoisting tasks;
  • Chassis Truck Method: It provides a convenient connection mode for container transportation, commonly used in station scenarios.

When using the hoisting method, it is important to note that operating a crane requires a professional license, or professional operators should be hired. Before transportation, the space at the destination should be evaluated to ensure easy access for trucks, and height and width restrictions, as well as ground flatness, should be checked.

Roll-On/Roll-Off Method

The roll-on/roll-off method achieves the rolling loading and unloading of containers through equipment such as chassis trucks and tractors, without the need for hoisting. The specific process is as follows:

  • Loading onto Ships: Place the container on a chassis truck, and the tractor tows the trailer through a ramp into the ship's hold, where the tractor and trailer are uncoupled for unloading;
  • Unloading from Ships: After the ship arrives at the port, a forklift places the container on a trailer, which is then towed by a tractor to the dock freight yard, or the forklift alone can be used for loading and unloading via the ramp.

The roll-on/roll-off method is suitable for scenarios such as ports and stations. The main equipment includes trailers, forklifts, and parallel shifting loaders, enabling smooth transfers between different transportation vehicles.

Solutions for Special Scenarios

  • Internal Factory Transportation: Special container mobile casters can be used, which match the standard container corner fittings, support omnidirectional steering and precise braking, and are suitable for operations in narrow spaces;
  • Short-Distance Transfer: Lightweight container designs can be adopted, combined with forklift transfer. Through designs such as the insertion of positioning blocks into slots and the adjustment of fork widths by movable plates, the stability of transfer is improved.
