How to Soundproof Container Houses
Container houses can achieve effective soundproofing through measures such as basic soundproofing renovation, sealing of key nodes, internal optimization, external environmental noise reduction, and standardization of material construction.

1. Basic Soundproofing Renovation The original metal wall panels of container houses have poor sound transmission performance and require the construction of a composite soundproofing structure. Lay high-density soundproofing felt (density ≥ 2.0kg/m²) on the inner side of the metal wall panels to suppress vibrations using damping materials; install light steel keels on the outer layer and fill them with 50-100mm thick glass wool or rock wool to absorb sound energy through their porous structure; finally, use polyester fiber sound-absorbing panels or gypsum boards as the finishing layer to form a three-layer structure of "damping-soundproofing-sound absorption". This solution can reduce sound transmission through the walls by approximately 40-50 decibels, meeting residential requirements.
2. Sealing of Key Nodes Doors and windows are the main points of sound leakage and require targeted treatment:
- Door and Window Upgrades: Install double-glazed windows (e.g., 5mm+12A+5mm tempered glass) with thermal break aluminum frames and EPDM sealing strips; use steel soundproof doors filled with rock wool for the doors, and install dust-proof and soundproof strips around the door frames.
- Gap Sealing: Use sealant or expanding foam filler to tightly seal gaps in the container body, wire penetrations, and other holes to prevent the formation of sound bridges.
3. Internal Optimization Measures
- Soft Material Coverage: Cover walls and ceilings with sound-absorbing soft packs or panels, and lay carpets or rubber shock-absorbing pads on the floor to absorb mid- to high-frequency noise through their porous structures.
- Spatial Layout Optimization: Separate quiet areas such as bedrooms from equipment areas, and install soundproof enclosures for air conditioners, water pumps, and other equipment to reduce the propagation of mechanical noise.
4. External Environmental Noise Reduction
- Physical Barriers: Set up 2-4 meter high sound barriers made of density boards, fiberglass panels, or concrete blocks around the container to block external noise from traffic and other sources.
- Greening for Noise Reduction: Plant tall trees or shrubs to scatter and absorb sound waves with their leaves, which can additionally reduce noise by 3-5 decibels.
5. Material and Construction Standards
- Performance Indicators: The sound reduction index (weighted sound reduction index Rw) after renovation should reach 35-45dB, complying with national standards (bedroom daytime ≤ 40dB, nighttime ≤ 30dB).
- Safety Requirements: Use Class A or B1 fire-resistant materials, avoid using flammable soundproofing cotton; do not damage the structural strength of the container during construction to ensure overall stability.
In addition, the modular integrated拼接 (spliced) soundproof room technology quickly constructs enclosed spaces using prefabricated composite soundproof panels (including high-density damping layers and centrifugal glass wool) combined with special sealing strips; some cases use vacuum insulation panels or polyurethane sandwich panels instead of traditional metal wall panels, significantly improving soundproofing performance.
