How to Place Container Houses

Admin 15 de septiembre de 2026

The placement of container houses requires comprehensive consideration of factors such as legality, space utilization, safety, and approval procedures.

I. Legality Requirements

  1. Placement on Homesteads: In rural areas, container houses should be placed on self-owned and legally confirmed homesteads. If the homestead itself is an illegal construction or occupies someone else's land, the placement is illegal.
  2. Placement on Wasteland: If choosing non-homestead areas such as barren mountains, slopes, or abandoned ponds, it is necessary to consult the land management department in advance and obtain government permission. Otherwise, it may be regarded as illegal land occupation.
  3. Avoid Affecting Public Interests: Container houses must not obstruct traffic or affect the lives of other villagers. For example, they must not occupy public roads or fire exits.

II. Space Utilization and Structural Design

  1. Joint Combination: By joining or stacking 2-3 containers in a staggered manner, functional areas such as living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms can be expanded. For example, connecting two containers can create a flat layout of about 100 square meters, including a living-dining room, two bedrooms, and a bathroom with a bathtub.
  2. Staggered Design: Stacking containers in a staggered manner up and down can create richer spatial levels. The ground floor can be reserved for a leisure courtyard or aisle area, improving ventilation and lighting conditions.
  3. Multi-functional Furniture: For small units (such as 15 square meters), it is recommended to use folding beds, folding tables, integrated cabinets, etc., to enhance space flexibility and meet living needs.

III. Safety and Approval Requirements

  1. Approval Procedures: For long-term residence, it is necessary to go through the house-building approval process according to local requirements and provide structural drawings stamped by an engineer. Otherwise, it may be regarded as an illegal construction. Cultivated land and basic farmland are strictly prohibited from construction. Forest land requires forestry approval, and most leased land can only be used for temporary buildings.
  2. Structural Safety: The main body of the container is made of steel, so it is necessary to focus on rust prevention, waterproof sealing, and prevention of internal condensation. For example, all cutting and welding incisions must be polished and coated with epoxy primer + topcoat, and the seals around doors and windows and the joints between container bodies must be regularly replaced with sealant.
  3. Foundation Requirements: The container should be elevated on pile foundations to prevent moisture and insects, and also to facilitate site leveling. Avoid placing it directly on the ground, which may cause the bottom to be soaked in moisture.

IV. Special Scenario Applications If used for homestays or commercial purposes, it is necessary to obtain a business license and approval from government departments. As a temporary building that has not exceeded the approved period, appropriate compensation may be given according to the actual situation during demolition.
