How to Build a Container House
The construction of a container house involves steps such as design planning, foundation construction, container modification and combination, installation, and decoration. Details are as follows:

I. Design Planning
Determine the functional areas of the house (such as bedrooms, living rooms, bathrooms, etc.) based on usage needs, select container specifications (a 20-foot container can bear 25 tons, and a 40-foot container can bear 45 tons) and combination methods. Expand the space through splicing and staggered stacking. For example, connecting two containers can create a flat layout of about 100 square meters, including a living-dining room, two bedrooms, and a bathroom with a bathtub. For small units, it is recommended to use foldable furniture to improve space utilization.
II. Foundation Construction
Approval procedures need to be completed according to the nature of the land: for rural homesteads, structural drawings need to be provided and house-building approval needs to be obtained; for leased land, it is only for temporary use, and the nature of the contract needs to be clarified. The foundation adopts independent pile foundations to elevate the containers off the ground to prevent moisture and pests, and ensure the site is level.
III. Container Modification and Combination
- Structural Reinforcement: Check the thickness of the main beams and columns and the welding process to ensure there are no cold welds; the container body needs to be galvanized or coated with anti-corrosion treatment as a whole.
- Space Optimization: Cut openings to install doors and windows, and reserve interfaces for water and electricity pipelines; fill the walls with insulation materials such as rock wool and glass wool, and add an inner insulation layer to the roof.
- Combination and Connection: When stacking multiple layers, waterproof node treatment technology should be adopted, and the connection frames between containers should be fixed with bolts or welding to ensure overall stability.
IV. Installation and Decoration
- External Treatment: Spray anti-rust paint or install glass curtain walls, hanging panels, etc. to beautify the facade, and add eaves or sunshades to the roof to prevent exposure to the sun.
- Internal Decoration: Lay cement fiber boards or steel-wood composite floors on the ground, and use metal panels or calcium silicate boards on the walls; install triple-glazed windows to improve insulation performance, and enhance lighting through large floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights.
- System Connection: Connect water supply and drainage pipelines and electrical systems, and integrate intelligent management modules (such as temperature control and security).
V. Acceptance and Maintenance
Check the connection nodes of the container body, waterproof performance, and insulation effect to ensure compliance with temporary building regulations. Regularly maintain the anti-corrosion coating and replace aging sealing strips to extend the service life.
