How to Apply for a Container House

Admin 15 de septiembre de 2026

To apply for a container house, you need to complete procedures such as site selection, planning, and approval, and prepare relevant materials. The specific process is as follows:

I. Approval Procedures

  1. Site Selection and Land Property Confirmation
First, visit the local land bureau to confirm the land property of the site (such as construction land, industrial land, etc.) to ensure it meets the requirements for container house construction. If the land property does not match, adjust the site selection or go through the procedures for changing the land property.
  2. Planning Filing
After the land bureau completes the site planning, take the planning-related documents (such as site layout plans, usage descriptions, etc.) to the local planning bureau to handle the filing and approval procedures.
  3. Temporary Building Approval
Container houses are considered temporary buildings. You need to apply for approval from the urban management bureau or land bureau. The approval period is generally two years and can be renewed for another two years upon expiration. When applying for approval, submit materials such as house design drawings and structural safety descriptions.
  4. Government Approval Documents (if applicable)
If the purpose is for projects such as creative parks or cultural and tourism homestays that comply with national encouraging industrial policies, you can apply for government approval documents (such as Shanghai's policy encouraging the secondary green modular application of containers) to simplify the approval process.
  5. Exemption in Special Cases
If the land use right belongs to an individual and is within the red line, and at the same time meets conditions such as not disturbing residents and being pollution-free, approval can be exempted.

II. Material Preparation and Construction Requirements

  1. Basic Materials
You need to prepare standard shipping containers (20 feet or 40 feet), steel materials (angle steel, channel steel, etc.), thermal insulation materials (polyurethane foam, rock wool, etc.), interior and exterior wall panels (color steel plates, calcium silicate boards, etc.), and doors and windows (aluminum alloy doors, sliding windows, etc.).
  2. Construction Conditions
The site needs to be flat. The foundation can be in the form of ground screws or concrete foundations to ensure the stability of the house. Construction should be carried out by a professional team to avoid damaging the house structure.

III. Certification and Compliance (for Export or Special Purposes)
If the house is used for export or specific scenarios (such as medical facilities), you need to obtain international certifications such as CE and UL. Provide documents such as house drawings, material lists, and test reports. The certification cycle and cost vary by country.
