Homemade Portable Toilet Tutorial
Admin 28 de septiembre de 2026
You can choose from the following three tutorials to make a homemade portable toilet according to your needs. The specific steps are as follows:

Making with a Water Storage Barrel
- Basic Structure Construction: Split a water storage barrel in half with an angle grinder. Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden board for mobility. Secure wooden strips and self-tapping screws on the upper side of the barrel to increase the height to an appropriate range.
- Door and Wall Installation: Cut an opening on the side of the water storage barrel and install sponge strips on both sides to form a door frame. Embed plastic soft boards between the wooden strips to create walls, and use the upper part of the barrel as the roof. Paint the wooden strips with waterproof paint to enhance aesthetics and durability.
- Drainage and Water Supply System: Drill a hole at the bottom of the barrel and install a drain pipe to form a floor drain. Drill a hole on the side and connect a direct joint, then insert a plastic bucket as a water storage device. Make a bathroom heater with a water pipe and connect it to a showerhead through a tee joint. Place the toilet on the drain outlet, secure the water tank, and seal it with glass glue. Extend the drain pipe to the door as the water inlet pipe for the sink, and use a waste bucket to collect wastewater.
Making with a Water Storage Tank and a Pallet
- Mobile Base Preparation: Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a pallet. Place a water storage tank on it and cut along the top marking line to remove the top and form an open tank. Stack two open tanks upside down and fix the outer frame with self-tapping screws.
- Functional Opening Cutting: Cut a rectangular opening 180 cm high and 50 cm wide on the tank for the door. Drill a hole on the internal floor and install an elbow and a water pipe. Seal the gaps and cut off the excess parts.
- Equipment Installation: Align the toilet with the drain outlet and fix it with glue. Use wall clips to secure the water pipe, install a faucet, a pipe cap, and a stainless-steel sink. Connect the water inlet pipe of the toilet tank, the shower hose, and the spray-type showerhead, and install the toilet seat. Finally, make a door with wooden boards and hinges and install handles.
Simple and Low-Cost Making
- Water Storage and Mobility Design: Select a 100L food-grade PE water storage bucket and install universal wheels with brakes that can bear a weight of over 50 kg at the bottom. Drill two holes on the side of the bucket and connect an outlet pipe (with a small faucet) and an overflow pipe respectively.
- Enclosure Structure Construction: Make a 1.2m×0.8m square frame with PVC pipes, cover it with Oxford cloth waterproof fabric, and leave a ventilation opening at the top.
- Equipment Configuration: Place a biodegradable plastic bag folding toilet on the bucket and put a small sink next to it, connecting it to the outlet pipe. Install a float switch in the bucket to automatically remind you to add water. Place an anti-slip mat at the bottom. The wastewater can be reused (such as for flushing the toilet or watering flowers). In winter, wrap it with thermal insulation cotton to prevent freezing.
