High-Ceiling Prefabricated Mezzanine

Admin 18 de septiembre de 2026

Using a prefabricated mezzanine in buildings with high ceilings is an effective way to increase usable space, but it must strictly adhere to structural safety, material specifications, and construction details.

I. Core Functions and Suitable Scenarios of Prefabricated Mezzanines

Prefabricated mezzanines divide a single-story space into two levels by constructing a structural layer, suitable for rural self-built houses, mezzanine additions, and other scenarios. Their primary purpose is to expand usable space within limited building heights while ensuring structural stability and spatial comfort.

II. Material Selection and Performance Standards

  1. Prestressed Concrete Hollow Slabs:

    • Span and Thickness: Common spans range from 3.6m to 7.2m, with thicknesses of 120mm to 180mm, suitable for large-span space divisions.
    • Performance Indicators: The standard bearing capacity is typically 2.0-3.5kN/m², with a crack resistance grade of no less than Level II, meeting the requirements of the "Building Structural Load Code" (GB50009-2012).
    • Process Requirements: Prefer products that use a dual curing process of steam curing + natural curing, which effectively prevents cracking and deformation and extends service life.
  2. Steel Structure Prefabricated Mezzanines:

    • Suitable for scenarios requiring high clear heights, ensuring firm welding to avoid structural looseness.
    • Requires anti-rust treatment to prevent steel corrosion from affecting safety.

III. Key Construction Considerations

  1. Structural Safety Inspection:

    • Before construction, a professional structural engineer must be commissioned to inspect the original building's load-bearing capacity, ensuring that the additional load does not exceed 20% of the design value to avoid structural damage caused by overloading.
  2. Spatial Planning Requirements:

    • Clear Height Standards: The lower level should have a clear height of no less than 2 meters, and the upper level no less than 1.8 meters, ensuring comfort for daily activities.
    • Stair Location: Plan in advance to avoid occupying core functional areas (such as living rooms, bedrooms) and ensure convenient passage.
  3. Construction Detail Control:

    • Transportation Radius: It is recommended to control the transportation radius of prefabricated components within 150 kilometers, prioritizing local production enterprises to reduce transportation losses and costs.
    • Moisture-Proof Treatment: If wooden structures are used, moisture-proof treatment must be applied to contact surfaces to prevent material deformation due to moisture.
    • Connection Process: For steel structures, ensure that welding points are firm; for concrete structures, ensure that component joints are tight to avoid gaps.

IV. Compliance and Long-Term Maintenance

Prefabricated mezzanine construction must comply with local building codes. After construction, it is recommended to regularly inspect structural stability, especially connection nodes and load-bearing components, to ensure long-term safety in use.
