Handmade Simple Portable Toilet

Admin 28 de septiembre de 2026

Refer to the following steps for making a handmade simple portable toilet, which are divided into three parts: water storage tank modification, internal device installation, and function improvement:

I. Water Storage Tank Modification

  1. Cutting and Reinforcement: Select a corrosion-resistant plastic water storage tank and use an angle grinder to cut it longitudinally along the central axis of the tank body, forming two semi-circular tank bodies. Mark four corner points on a flat wooden board and fix universal wheels with expansion screws (it is recommended to choose silent wheels with a load-bearing capacity of ≥50kg) to ensure mobility stability. Install anti-corrosion wooden strips vertically along the tank body and connect them to the tank body with self-tapping screws to form a frame structure about 1.8 meters high, which not only increases the internal space but also enhances the structural strength.
  2. Wall and Roof Construction: Cut a rectangular opening 60cm long and 80cm high at a distance of 30cm from the bottom of the tank body on the side as a doorway. Stick waterproof sponge strips along the edge of the door frame to form a sealed buffer layer. Cut a 2mm thick transparent plastic soft board and embed it in the frame, and fix it with rivets to form an openable wall. Invert the uncut semi-circular tank body as the roof and spray it with white waterproof paint on the surface (it is recommended to use polyurethane-based paint), which not only prevents ultraviolet aging but also improves aesthetics.

II. Internal Device Installation

  1. Drainage System: Drill a 5cm diameter circular hole at the center of the tank bottom and install a drain pipe with an anti-odor core as a floor drain. Drill a hole at a distance of 15cm from the bottom of the tank body on the side, connect a horizontal drain pipe through a PVC straight connector, and extend it to an external sewage tank (it is recommended to use a sealed tank with a capacity of more than 20L).
  2. Shower Device: Place a small plastic bucket (capacity ≥10L) in the corner of the tank as a water storage device, and connect it to a micro water pump (power ≤30W) and a showerhead with a silicone hose. If heating function is required, a solar collector plate or a 12V vehicle-mounted heating rod (with a battery) can be installed.
  3. Toilet System: Select a lightweight toilet (such as a folding toilet), fix its base to the tank bottom with glass glue, and connect the water tank drain pipe to the main sewage pipe through a three-way connector. It is recommended to lay an activated carbon filter layer under the toilet to reduce odor diffusion.

III. Function Improvement

  1. Handwashing System: Install a micro handwashing basin (diameter ≤30cm) on the outside of the door frame, connect it horizontally to the main drain pipe through a three-way connector as the water inlet pipe, and place a detachable water collection bucket below for secondary utilization.
  2. Door Optimization: Make a door panel (thickness ≥3cm) with foam strips spliced honeycomb wooden boards and cover it with waterproof canvas. Install a hose connector at the door hinge and connect it to the internal ventilation system (a 12V exhaust fan can be optionally equipped).
  3. Safety Reinforcement: Install L-shaped metal brackets at the four corners of the frame and connect them to the tank body with bolts. Wrap all wire connectors with waterproof tape to avoid short-circuit risks.

Precautions: Measure the size of the water storage tank before making to ensure the adaptability of accessories; wear goggles and anti-cutting gloves for cutting operations; regularly clean and disinfect the sewage tank; if used outdoors, it is recommended to add a rain shelter and mosquito netting.
