Hamster Mobile Toilet
Admin 21 de septiembre de 2026
Training a hamster to use a mobile toilet and adjusting its position can be achieved by preparing a suitable toilet, using scent guidance, observing and adjusting the position, and paying attention to relevant matters. Details are as follows:

I. Preparing the Toilet Choose a hamster-specific toilet with a low opening to ensure easy access. Such toilets can be purchased on Taobao or at pet stores, or you can make one yourself according to the hamster's size and activity habits. The toilet material should be safe and non-toxic, avoiding sharp or fragile materials to prevent injury to the hamster.
II. Using Scent Guidance
- Preserving Scent Markers: When cleaning the hamster cage, keep a small amount of bedding material and feces with fresh hamster urine for later use. After replacing the bedding, place the toilet in a corner of the cage far from the hamster's nest.
- Setting Up the Toilet Environment: Fill the toilet with cat litter (avoid using crystal cat litter to prevent the hamster from ingesting it or scratching its mouth) and mix in the previously preserved urine-soaked bedding and a small amount of feces to attract the hamster with the scent.
- Reinforcing Scent Location: When cleaning the cage, wipe other areas with clean bath sand to remove odors, leaving only scent markers near the toilet to help the hamster establish the concept of 'toilet = excretion point'.
III. Observing and Adjusting the Position
- Guiding Usage: After placing the hamster in the cage, observe its behavior. If it excretes randomly, gently 'drive' it to the vicinity of the toilet or use food to guide it into the toilet area.
- Flexible Adjustment: If the hamster repeatedly excretes in a fixed position, move the toilet there and gradually reduce the distance between its activity area and the toilet to reinforce the habit. For example, if the hamster often excretes in a corner of the cage, place the toilet directly in that corner.
IV. Precautions
- Sand Selection: Avoid using cat litter or bedding that hardens when wet to prevent the hamster from ingesting it and causing intestinal obstruction or oral injury.
- Regular Cleaning: Clean the feces in the toilet daily and replace all bedding and disinfect the toilet weekly. Choose bedding with strong adsorption and disinfection functions. When cleaning the entire toilet, remove all items, soak them in a pet-specific disinfectant, and dry them in the sun to ensure hygiene.
- Stable Environment: Avoid frequently moving the toilet position during training and gradually adjust it after the hamster forms a stable habit. If the hamster resists the new position, temporarily return it to the original place and gradually transition.
