Guangdong Public Toilet Mobility
The mobility of public toilets in Guangdong is mainly reflected in two aspects: the practice of 'tide toilets' and the supply of mobile toilet products.

Practice of Tide Toilets
Guangdong Huizhou West Lake Scenic Area once trialed 'tide toilets,' an innovative approach to toilet space management. The core principle involves setting up manually 'adjustable signs' at the toilet entrance to switch gender displays. By using movable signboards or lockable sliding doors, the usage rights of male and female toilets are dynamically adjusted based on real-time foot traffic. During major holidays and other periods when female toilet demand significantly increases, parts of the male toilet area can be temporarily converted into female toilets to alleviate long queues for female users.
However, this design has revealed some issues during actual operation. Due to the easily adjustable signs and low modification threshold, confusion between male and female toilet areas can occur, posing risks of privacy breaches. For example, there may be instances where, despite the sign being switched, males still mistakenly enter the original male toilet area (now a female toilet), causing inconvenience and embarrassment to users. As a result, the tide toilets have sparked controversy, and all adjustable signs in the involved toilets have been removed. Fixed slot-type doorplates will be installed subsequently to enhance usage standardization and safety.
