Foreigners' Self-Built Container Houses
There are numerous cases of foreigners using containers to build their own houses, showcasing a combination of eco-friendliness, versatility, and creative aesthetics, along with advantages such as low cost, fast construction, and customizability.

In terms of eco-friendly design, the container hotel in the Czech Republic is a prime example. Designed by the Czech company ARTIKUL Architects in 2015, it is located at a surfing campsite in Křehčíč. Composed of two 20-foot and one 40-foot containers, it has a total of five guest rooms. The building is eco-friendly and self-sufficient, equipped with built-in water tanks and waterless toilets, reducing reliance on traditional water resources and minimizing environmental impact, embodying the concept of sustainable development.
Regarding versatile layouts, the multifunctional container house in Chile and the rural container residence in South Korea both demonstrate excellent design. The container house completed in Chile in 2019 utilizes two containers placed parallel and 6 meters apart. One container accommodates two bedrooms and a bathroom, while the other serves as an open space (workshop, office, or gathering place). The two are connected by a large metal roof, forming a sheltered transitional area that meets the diverse living needs of the occupants. The rural container residence in South Korea features two overlapping containers installed on the roof by the designer, transforming the original house into two units and leaving a large terrace, increasing living space and leisure areas.
In terms of creative aesthetics, the Quartz Cottage and the Star-Shaped Container Residence in Cornwall, UK, are unique. The Quartz Cottage boasts a bold blue exterior and exposed corrugated steel, with glass doors and windows allowing ample indoor light. The main living space connects to an outdoor garden, featuring a dining area and a hot tub. Inside, it includes an open living area, kitchen, corner bed, and private bathroom, seamlessly blending industrial style with natural landscapes. The Star-Shaped Container Residence consists of multiple containers arranged in a star pattern, covering a total area of about 200 square meters. Each container serves as an independent space (bedroom, dining room), designed to be transparent and avoid direct sunlight, suitable for a comfortable life under blue skies and white clouds, with a strong visual impact.
