Export Container House Size Diagram

Admin 16 de septiembre de 2026

The common size specifications of export container houses are mainly based on the sizes of international standard dry cargo containers, and there are also customized sizes to meet diverse needs. The following introduces them from three aspects: standard sizes, customized sizes, and special-type sizes.

I. International Standard Dry Cargo Container Sizes
Dry cargo containers (DRY CONTAINER) commonly used in international maritime transport are the main sources of export container houses. Their standard sizes are as follows:

  1. 20-foot container: The external dimensions are 20×8×8 feet 6 inches (approximately 6.1×2.44×2.59 meters), and the internal net dimensions are approximately 5.898×2.352×2.390 meters, with a volume of about 33 cubic meters. Such containers, after modification, are often used as single-person offices, dormitories, or small shops.
  2. 40-foot container: The external dimensions are 40×8×8 feet 6 inches (approximately 12.2×2.44×2.59 meters), and the internal net dimensions are approximately 12.024×2.352×2.390 meters, with a volume of about 67 cubic meters. After modification, they are often used as multi-functional spaces or multi-person dormitories.
  3. 40-foot high-cube container: The external dimensions are 40×8×9 feet 6 inches (approximately 12.2×2.44×2.89 meters), and the internal net dimensions are approximately 12.024×2.352×2.698 meters, with a volume of about 76 cubic meters. Due to their height advantage, they are often used as exhibition halls or housing with height requirements.

II. Domestic General and Customized Sizes
In domestic container house production, in addition to directly using maritime containers, standardized and customized sizes have also been developed according to actual needs:

  1. Domestic general standard: Length: 6 meters, width: 3 meters, height: 2.9 meters, suitable for construction site accommodation, offices, etc.
  2. Export general standard: Length: 6 meters, width: 2.4 meters, height: 2.9 meters, mainly to meet the needs of international transport and overseas projects.
  3. Non-standard customized sizes: The length can be extended to 3 meters, 6 meters, 8 meters, 12 meters, etc.; the width can be selected from 2.5 meters, 2.55 meters, 3 meters, 4 meters, etc.; the height can be adjusted to 2.6 meters, 2.7 meters, 2.8 meters, 2.9 meters, etc. In addition, the positions of doors and windows, partition layouts, and interior decorations can all be designed according to needs.

III. Special-Type Container Sizes
For specific functional requirements, container houses have also derived various special types:

  1. Open-top containers: With an open top, they are convenient for hoisting large equipment. A 20-foot open-top container has a volume of about 31.5 cubic meters, and a 40-foot open-top container has a volume of about 65 cubic meters.
  2. Flat-rack containers: With a flat bottom, they are suitable for transporting overweight cargo. A 20-foot flat-rack container has a volume of about 28 cubic meters, and a 40-foot flat-rack container has a volume of about 50 cubic meters.
  3. Functional modular houses: Such as shower modules, toilet modules, etc., can be quickly combined through standardized design to meet the needs of temporary medical and epidemic prevention scenarios.
