Does a Container House Need Fire Protection?
Container houses do require fire protection. Here are the details:

I. Necessity of Fire Protection Permits If container houses are used as residential or office spaces, which are densely populated areas, a safety assessment and building permit are required. Additionally, they must be reported to the local fire department for inspection of internal fire protection facilities (such as fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, and fire exits) to ensure compliance with regulations and obtain fire protection permit documents. If used for non-residential or non-office purposes, but storing flammable and explosive materials or conducting activities prone to fires (such as warehousing and processing), they must also be reported and obtain fire protection permits or be filed for record.
II. Fire Protection Requirements
Architectural Design and Safety Standards
- Structural Stability: They must undergo formal design and modification to ensure they can withstand natural forces such as wind and earthquakes, preventing collapse or damage.
- Fire Resistance: Use fire-retardant materials, equip with effective firefighting equipment, and set up reasonable evacuation routes to ensure rapid evacuation of personnel in case of fire.
- Ventilation and Lighting: The design must be reasonable to avoid safety hazards caused by poor air circulation or insufficient lighting.
Fire Protection Facilities and Equipment Configuration
- Fire Extinguishers: At least one 4-kilogram or heavier ABC-type dry powder fire extinguisher should be provided for every 50 square meters to cope with initial fires.
- Fire Alarm System: Areas with large building areas or high fire risks need to install automatic alarm devices to promptly detect fires.
- Automatic Sprinkler System: Accommodation areas with a total building area exceeding 300 square meters need to be equipped with this system to control the spread of fires.
Electrical Safety and Daily Management
- Circuit Protection: Electrical circuits must be run through metal pipes or fire-retardant plastic pipes. Unauthorized connections are prohibited to prevent electrical fires.
- Equipment Use: Select qualified electrical appliances with matching power ratings. High-power appliances should have separate circuits and be equipped with protective devices.
- Management System: Clearly define the person responsible for fire protection, regularly inspect and rectify hidden dangers, and provide fire protection training for residents.
Other Special Requirements
- Surrounding Environment: The interior and exterior of the house must be equipped with fire protection equipment, and fire exits must be set up around it. The distance from flammable and explosive warehouses should be greater than 25 meters.
- Layout Specifications: When arranged in groups, each group should not exceed 10 buildings, with a building spacing of no less than 3.5 meters and a group spacing of no less than 10 meters.
- Dormitory Restrictions: The fire resistance rating must be Level III, with no more than 2 floors and a floor area of no more than 1,200 square meters. If there are 2 floors, 2 evacuation staircases must be set up, with a staircase width of no less than 1 meter and an outer corridor railing height of no less than 1.05 meters.
- Construction Safety: Install fire protection devices on heating stoves in winter, keep welding operations away from walls, and prohibit the use of blowtorches for waterproofing treatments.
