Disadvantages of Using Container Houses

Admin 15 de septiembre de 2026

The disadvantages of using container houses are mainly reflected in four aspects: fire safety hazards, inadequate living performance, limited structural durability, and design flaws in space utilization.

1. Prominent Fire Safety Hazards

Container houses are mostly supported by steel structures. In a fire, the temperature in the fire scene can reach 800-1000℃, far exceeding the critical temperature (500℃) at which steel structures lose stability. Ordinary container houses may collapse within 10 minutes after a fire, seriously hindering personnel evacuation and material rescue. To reduce costs, some products use flammable materials such as polyurethane and polystyrene to fill the panel cores. These materials have low ignition points and poor flame retardancy, and will burn rapidly when exposed to high temperatures or open flames. Moreover, their honeycomb structure exacerbates the spread of the fire. In addition, some user units do not reserve standardized safety passages and even occupy evacuation spaces to build houses, further increasing fire risks.

2. Shortcomings in Living Performance

The thermal insulation performance of container houses is significantly affected by material costs. Low-end products (priced at approximately 5000-8000 yuan) have poor thermal insulation effects, and higher-quality products (priced at approximately 11000-16000 yuan) need to be selected to meet requirements. At the same time, the sound-conducting effect of metal materials results in inadequate sound insulation performance, and additional sound insulation treatment is required to reduce noise interference. In addition, the interior space of container houses is relatively narrow, with limited ventilation and lighting conditions. Long-term residence may cause physical and mental discomfort.

3. Limited Structural Durability

Although container houses are manufactured using corrosion-resistant steel with a designed lifespan of up to 25 years, their actual service life is greatly affected by environmental factors. In humid or high-salt environments, steel is prone to rusting, and regular anti-rust treatment, painting, and structural inspections are required to extend the lifespan. If not properly maintained, the service life of container houses may be shortened to 10-15 years, and safety hazards will increase with the extension of service life.

4. Design Flaws in Space Utilization

Although the modular design of container houses facilitates combination, the interior space layout is limited by the fixed dimensions of the containers (for example, the width of a standard container is only 2.4 meters). Multi-functional furniture, reasonable zoning, and large windows are needed to optimize the sense of space. In addition, when multiple containers are spliced together, the waterproof performance at the splicing joints is poor, and frequent maintenance is required to avoid leakage problems.
