Heating in Container-Renovated Houses
Container-renovated houses can be equipped with heating systems, but proper insulation and reasonable installation planning are required. Details are as follows:

Insulation Measures Are Fundamental
Containers are made of metal, which has high thermal conductivity and poor insulation performance. Without insulation treatment, indoor heat is easily lost in winter, making it difficult to achieve the desired heating effect even with heating systems installed. High-efficiency insulation materials such as rock wool boards can be selected and installed in the middle of the container walls to provide good thermal insulation and fire resistance. For example, after using rock wool sandwich color steel plates in the movable prefabricated houses at construction sites in the mountainous areas of Guizhou, the indoor temperature can be 8 - 10℃ higher than the outdoor temperature. In addition, the airtightness of doors and windows is also crucial. Windproof strips can be added to prevent cold air from entering.
Diverse Heating Installation Methods
- Floor-level Installation: If you want to install radiators close to the base cabinets of kitchen cabinets, you need to carefully consider the heat dissipation issue. Radiators dissipate heat normally when exposed to the air. Installing them close to the base cabinets will affect heat dissipation. It is recommended to place the radiators in the empty space between the base cabinets and the wall cabinets, which can meet the heating needs of the kitchen without affecting heat dissipation.
- Hanging Above the Sofa: Due to overall design issues, placing radiators on the wall behind the sofa and higher than the sofa is technically and thermally feasible. However, having the heating above your head may make you feel uncomfortable due to the hot air baking. The pros and cons need to be weighed during installation.
- Other Locations: Depending on the house layout and actual needs, suitable locations can be selected for installing radiators or underfloor heating. For example, in a container-renovated tea room, after installing an insulation layer inside, installing an air conditioner can also achieve a heating effect. This idea can also be referred to for installing heating equipment.
Renovation Precautions
- Timing Arrangement: The first heating treatment should be carried out before wall treatment to avoid damaging the treated walls. Heating treatment in the kitchen should be done after cabinet design, that is, after the first cabinet measurement, because the cabinet design includes the location of the kitchen heating.
- Content Planning: The first treatment mainly involves removing the original heating system, dealing with old water pipes, cutting them off, adjusting the pipe direction according to the heating location, and installing two valves. The remaining treatments are carried out after the wall treatment is completed.
- Location and Height Design: Before renovating the heating system, the location should be designed first, paying attention to the height. For example, for a 1.5m radiator, including the bends at both ends, it is about 1.6m. With a height of 20cm from the ground, the total height is about 1.8m. If the direction of the heating is to be changed, it may be necessary to go to the downstairs neighbor's house to fix the heating pipes and then change the direction of the bends.
