Container House Size Specification Diagram

Admin 15 de septiembre de 2026

The common size specifications of container houses are based on international standard dry cargo containers, mainly divided into 20-foot, 40-foot standard containers, and 40-foot high cube containers. The internal net dimensions vary depending on the container type, and non-standard customized dimensions are flexible and adjustable.

I. International Standard Container House Sizes The internationally recognized dry cargo container (DRY CONTAINER) serves as the primary foundation for container house modifications, with its internal net dimensions directly influencing the spatial layout of the house:

  1. 20-foot Standard Container: The external dimensions are 6058×2438×2591mm, with an approximate internal net dimension of 5898×2352×2390mm and a volume of about 33 cubic meters. Due to its compact size, this type of container is commonly used for single-person offices, dormitories, or small shops, providing sufficient space for basic living needs. However, the lateral space is relatively narrow, necessitating efficient layout planning to enhance utilization.
  2. 40-foot Standard Container: The external dimensions are 12192×2438×2591mm, with an approximate internal net dimension of 12024×2352×2390mm and a volume of about 67 cubic meters. With its doubled length, it can be divided into multi-functional spaces such as multi-person dormitories, dining areas, or office spaces, suitable for medium-scale scenarios.
  3. 40-foot High Cube Container: The external dimensions are 12192×2438×2896mm, with an approximate internal net dimension of 11998×2330×2655mm and a volume of about 76 cubic meters. The height is increased by 26.5cm, significantly enhancing vertical space. It is commonly used in scenarios requiring higher ceiling heights, such as exhibition halls, duplex houses, or spaces requiring the installation of ceiling-mounted equipment.

II. Non-Standard Customized Container House Sizes In addition to standard containers, container houses can be customized according to actual needs, offering greater flexibility in dimensions:

  1. Length Adjustment: Common customized lengths include 3m, 6m, 8m, 12m, etc. For example, the '3×6 house design' combines two 3m×6m containers to form a living space with a 12m width and 4.9m depth, which can be planned as a two-bedroom, one-living room, one-kitchen, and one-bathroom layout.
  2. Width and Height Expansion: Width options include 2.5m, 2.55m, 3m, 4m, etc., and height can be adjusted to 2.6m-2.9m to accommodate different functional requirements. For instance, the 6029-type container has a width of approximately 3m, aligning with the bay dimensions of civilian buildings, and is commonly used for office or accommodation purposes, offering higher comfort.
  3. Combination Design: By combining containers (vertically or horizontally), larger spaces can be created. For example, a 40-foot high cube container can accommodate three sets of mobile homes, or by connecting adjacent containers, space can be integrated to increase usable area.
