Container House Site Load

Admin 15 de septiembre de 2026

The site load of container houses needs to be comprehensively determined based on the house type, structural characteristics, and usage requirements. Its design must meet safety requirements such as wind resistance, earthquake resistance, and load-bearing capacity, and comply with relevant technical specifications.

1. Load Types and Influencing Factors

The site loads of container houses mainly include dead loads (self-weight), live loads (usage loads), wind loads, and seismic loads.

  1. Self-weight and Usage Loads: A standard container has a self-weight of approximately 2-3 tons (e.g., a 20-foot container can bear 25 tons, and a 40-foot container can bear 45 tons). Interior decoration, equipment, and personnel activities will further increase the load.
  2. Wind Loads: Coastal or windy areas require special consideration. For example, Chengdong Housing's standard products can withstand a wind pressure of 0.45 KN/㎡ (approximately equivalent to a Level 10 wind). In harsh environments, structural reinforcement (such as adding wind-resistant cables and increasing the density of fasteners) is necessary.
  3. Seismic Loads: Container houses, constructed with steel structures, exhibit excellent seismic performance. For example, Chengdong Housing can withstand an earthquake intensity of 8 degrees (equivalent to a magnitude 6.4 earthquake), and the toughness of the light steel structure can reduce the extent of damage.

2. Design Specifications and Safety Requirements

  1. Structural Stability:
    • The welding process and zinc coating thickness of the steel frame must meet standards, with column spacing not exceeding 2.5 meters.
    • For container houses with openings, the lateral stiffness should be optimized. Research shows that the larger the height-to-width ratio of the opening and the farther it is from the loaded end, the stronger the stiffness and load-bearing capacity. When the opening ratio exceeds a certain level, reinforcement measures are required.
  2. Material Performance:
    • Interior wall panels must meet the B1 fire rating standard, with formaldehyde emissions ≤ 0.08 mg/m³.
    • Enclosure materials (such as rock wool and glass wool) must meet fire resistance requirements (commonly ≥ 0.5 hours).
  3. Foundation Requirements:
    • The site must be level and solid. In humid areas, an elevated platform design is necessary. For example, the Xinjiang Aksu project met the requirements for wind resistance up to Level 11 through optimized foundation design.

3. Typical Cases and Data References

  1. Wind Resistance Performance: Chengdong Housing successfully withstood a Category 17 hurricane in the Bahamas project through structural reinforcement (such as increasing the cross-section of beams and columns) and external auxiliary reinforcement (such as wind-resistant cables).
  2. Load-Bearing Capacity: The 6-meter standard container from Shandong Guoheng can bear up to 3 tons and supports rapid assembly and disassembly, with a reuse capacity of 5-8 times.
  3. Seismic Design: For multi-story container houses, it is recommended to adopt the "high load-bearing capacity-low ductility" approach outlined in the "Steel Structure Design Standard" (GB 50017—2017). Performance-based design ensures that load-bearing capacity meets requirements under minor and moderate earthquakes.
